ONKYO TX-NR929 not seeing DLNA playlists on MC 20
« on: April 26, 2015, 10:11:22 pm »

I'm running MC20 on a VMWARE ESXi 5.5 (running on an INTEL NUC) hosted Win7 guest, SMB attached to a SYNOLOGY NAS for file storage. I have around 16k songs in the MC DB, along with playlists.

My brand new ONKYO TX-NR929 AVR can see the MC DLNA service on the local network: I can browse songs by artist and album. What I can't seem to do is see the MC playlists, the playlist option is "x"d out on the ONKYO.

It certainly seems like some sort of incompatibility with the ONKYO acting as both controller and renderer. I was wondering if someone had some tricks I can try on the MC DLNA configuration to get the playlists to show up. I know that it's probably the ONKYO's fault, but my ability to customize the ONKYO or get them to fix anything is ... limited.

I created a number of different DLNA services on MC: XBOX; windows; etc. But the ONKYO doesn't seem to recognize the playlist option for any of them.

The ONKYO only supports DLNA audio, not video.

THANKS for looking!

You mean PLS or M3U playlists, right? I don't think that the MC server can publish those kinds of files. It would be a nice extra feature for people who use UPnP pull (assuming that the renderer supports this). But for people using UPnP push, MC does it another way by unwrapping the playlist and pushing the individual tracks instead.

I'm referring to media center playlists. Using plugplayer and other DLNA controllers, I can see and play the MC playlists, but with my ONKYO I cannot.

It is possible that the ONKYO simply does not support playlists. Can you please download the DMRA test application from my signature, run it, select the ONKYO and post the test log file here?

My Synology NAS shows up on the ONKYO. I have some of my playlists exported to the Synology from MC, the Synology drops them into a top level playlist folder after it finds and imports them. The same action against my MC network server hangs the ONKYO for 30 seconds or so - I'm assuming a timeout of some kind.

The ONKYO does appear to support Playlists over DLNA.

Andrew Whitebear, I tried your DMRA tool and it appeared to be a fail for some reason. Pressing the scan button it didn't find any DLNA render devices, even though I have MC, a SAMSUNG LED, and the ONKYO 929 all lit up on the network. Plugplayer sees all of those devices.

I'm sorry but I don't understand what you are saying above. Can you please try to explain more clearly?

Ok. You obviously have some kind of network, routing, or firewall problem. It is a pity since the report could help me to solve your main problem.
