I purchased MC for Mac and got a message that says: There is no application set to open the document “Media Center20 Mac-295969.mjr”.

The App Store choices presented to open this file looked sketch. How do I open and install this purchase? Thanks,

The MJR file is your installation key. It is used to install the license on your mac, and any other macs you want to use your license for MC on.  You are allowed to use your license on any Macs which you, personally, own (within reason).

You need to open the MJR file with Media Center 20.app in your Applications folder.  This will install the license.

This doesn't seem to always get registered correctly.  You can fix it by right-clicking on the file and choosing Get Info.  Then in the Open With section of the File Info dialog, select Media Center 20 (if it isn't in the list, choose Other and then browse to your Applications folder to select it).  Click the Change All button to set OSX to open all MJR files with Media Center (this is okay as MJR files are a proprietary file format for Media Center licenses).

Once you get it installed, you can copy the MJR file to other Macs and use it to license them as well.  The MJR file (but not your License) expires after 14 days, but you can create a new one at any time if needed.  More info:

I initially had the same problem with MJR not opening with anything by default.  I'm not sure how I got the idea (or if it was automatic?), but my Mac is now set to open .MJR files with Package Installer.  This works correctly.  Not sure if I should really have it set for Media Center or not, but it does install correctly.  <shrug>

Yeah. Package Installer is the real process name that does it. I think just using the .app works too tho.

It might do the association after a reboot?  Dunno. Works on mine.

I just tried using Media Center to open an MJR file using "open with" from Finder.  This does not work.  Media Center opens and tells you you aren't licensed, just as if you had simply opened it without a license.  I tried this several times.

Opening the MJR with Package Installer though, brings up a Media Center dialog saying it is now licensed and then brings up a web page at jriver.com.  Subsequently opening Media Center from Applications, it launches and it properly licensed.
