Distortion in standard view

I am having the problem of slowing down of playback and distortion on changing from theatre view to standard view. I would appreciate suggestions as to how I can resolve this issue. I am running 16gbs of ram and a Creative Soundblaster Z so wouldn't expect memory issues. HELP!
