Strange BPM calculations
« on: September 19, 2003, 08:06:02 pm »

I've noticed something a bit strange with the BPM.  After analyzing audio on quite a few imported tracks I noticed that the BPM was somewhere between 70-130.

I then ripped my first CD using MC and noticed that the BPM for the freshly ripped tracks were between 500-1200!

After forcing MC to re-analyze the tracks the BPM dropped into the same range as the imported tracks(70-130).

Bug?

I'm using the 9.1.256 beta.

After further review it appears that the BPM after forcing MC to re-analyze the tracks the BPM is coming out at 1/10th what it was showing after ripping.

Must be a bug.  If it doesn't get fixed in one of the next couple of builds, remind us again in the bug thread.

Thanks!

I've noticed that the BPM can be very inaccurate.  Fast songs get very low counts and vice versa.

Good vibes,
Eric

Can I ask if BPS isn't simply calculated as:

BPS == ((filesize)x8) / track-time

i.e., == (bits) / (seconds)

It's beats per minute -- like how fast you'd tap your foot.

It's not an exact science, but comes pretty close for a lot of music.
