I'm using the latest stable version of JRiver for mac.

I ripped a DVD on a Windows computer and verified that JRiver could play it.

I added the file to the library on the mac. JRiver confirms that it imported 1 file in the action window - left bottom.

However, on the right it says it has no files to play. I obviously added the wrong file.

Anyone on instructions to import a ripped DVD into JRiver on the mac?

You're probably still looking at an Audio view.

Go to the left Navigation Pane and find "Video".  Choose one of the views there and you should see it.

I tried that. It still says:

There are no files. Double click to add files to library.

When you say you "added the file", did you run Tools > Import > Import a single folder ?  Or do you have a folder set up for Auto Import?

As far as I know, you have to import files in some way for MC to see them in it's library.

The only other thing I can think is that the media type might not be set correctly.

You might also try finding the file by looking on the left Navigation Pane under Playlists > Recently Imported .

Yes, I used Tools.Import>Import a single folder.

When I go to the Recently imported playlist I see an entry Video_Ts.

Double clicking on it produces : Something went wrong with playback.

Ok, at least you are making progress! 

I'm not familiar with how MC for Mac supports full DVD copies, including Video_TS structures.   I have ripped a bunch of DVDs into M4V files using HandBrake.  This removes the DVD "structure" and just gives me a single video file with the main program in it and any sound tracks and subtitles that I select.  MC works with those types of video files in a fairly normal way.

I'm not sure how to advise you on full DVD copies.  I'm sure someone here knows more.  Do you want to have full DVD copies ,or are you more interested in the main movie like I was describing?

Handbrake only offers me two options: MP4 and MKV.

JRiver on the mac doesn't seem to recognize MP4 files.

I'm mostly using MC21 these days.  But I just opened MC20 to test this.  MC20 absolutely plays an MP4 file that I created with HandBrake.  By default HandBrake names these files ".m4v".

I used File > Open Media File as opposed to importing the videos into my Library.

What happens when you try File > Open Media on an MP4 video file?

Thank you. That worked with .mp4 using Open Media instead of File import.

On the other hand, when I use Open Media on a Blu Ray bdmv file I get something wrong with playback message. I have to use Import File and point to the BDMV file. JRiver then opens up a number of files numbered from 0000 to 0006. Selecting the largest one plays the movie.

I'm a novice with video playback in JRiver but this behaviour seems inconsistent to me. Any change to this in MC21?

Also, in both cases, the .mp4 and BDMV, I don't get the menu and have to watch the whole episode.

Is there a format I should be ripping to, to get access to the table of contents?

Have tried several times to play a .ifo file in a video_ts folder on the Mac and encountered the dreaded something went wrong with video playback.

The same file plays perfectly in Windows 7 JRiver complete with menu structure.

Most unsatisfactory.

DVD folders (ie. IFO) or Blu-ray folders (BDMV) are not supported in MC for Mac (or on Linux, for that matter), sorry.
