Hi all
I have seen this error in all previous editions of MC and it is still there in MC21:
I have 11'200 tracks in my library which are on SACD ISOs. I try to convert these tracks to PCM. After converting around 460 tracks, MC21 crashes and stops working.
The relevant line in the log seems to be

3378563: 9088: General: TopLevelExceptionFilter: Unhandled exception -- program crashing

It would be wonderful if the source of this error could be identified and corrected.

Try setting conversion to one at a time.

I've converted SACD tracks like crazy and there's just no problem.

However, John had a little bit of luck reproducing this so we'll have him try again.

I'm trying to to one at a time now.

I have now done a conversion run with
- 1 file at a time
- DSD input plugin setting to 2 threads instead of 'auto'
The conversion failed with "Media center has stopped" after 3200 tracks instead of 460 at the 3 files at a time and threads to 'auto' settings.
That's progress, but the original problem still seems to exists.

Also if I cancel the conversion while its running, I get the "Media center has stopped" error message almost every time.

I have now done my conversions with the following settings
- convert 2 file at a time
- fixed the number of threads at 2
This way, I am able to convert 2'500 to 3'000 tracks before MC crashes. For me this is not perfect, but workable.

If you do one at a time, it probably won't crash.  Something in the chain isn't thread safe.

Sorry. Jim, I forgot to mention that doing one file at a time also crashed at around 2'500 tracks. I did not try number of threads fixed to 1. Should I do that?

Can you describe the exact conversion you are doing? You're just saying "to PCM", is that to WAV? To FLAC?
Did you setup resampling (which would be logical for DSD -> PCM), or any other DSP? What bitdepth did you select, if any?

I converted to
- FLAC, compression level 5
- downsample to 44.1kHz
- bit depth automatic
- leave original file and add destination file to library
- skip conversion if destination file exists
- convert 2 files at a time
- number of threads: 2
I started with an empty destination directory

When MC crashes, the log says:

Are many of your SACD's multi-channel, and as such DST compressed? I think I'm on to something

No, I specifically selected only the 2 channel tracks using a smartlist.

Well Stereo could still be DST compressed, but doesn't have to be. Well I fixed some problems in DST decompression anyway!

Is there any way to tell whether it is DST compressed. Given I converted over 11'000 tracks (probably more than 1'000 ISOs) there are bound to be some DST compressed ones. On the other hand, the conversion does not always fail at the same ISO. it seems to be a somewhat random process.

There was a memory leak, which would only show itself after a number of DST conversions, which could also be a bit random in nature.

Aha, hope this fixes it. It did indeed look like a memory leak or a buffer overflow of some sorts.
