[Request] Skins and Data folders and files in the HOME directory

(1/2) > >>

Awesome Donkey:
This is the same issue that plagued the Mac build until it was fixed several months ago. The Linux build is also the only MC left with this issue. The Skins and Data folders are located currently in the /usr/lib/jriver/Media Center 21 directory, which requires root/sudo to access and modify from the Terminal which may not be desirable to most people.

Basically, load the Skins directory with the skin files and the Data directory with the Custom Art, Custom Resources and Custom Webpages folders in the following directory;

--- Code: ---'~/.jriver/Media Center 21/'
--- End code ---

Of course, increase the number for major releases. This would have nothing but benefits, including easy installation and use of custom skins for the Linux build - which I'd add to my existing tutorials. ;)

Thoughts?

bob:
The latest build incorporates this request.

Awesome Donkey:
Indeed it does, thanks! :D

One question, is it supposed to allow Custom Art, Custom Resources and Custom Webpages folders to load from there too? I did some testing, if I put those folders in the Data folder under the Home directory, MC/skins don't seem to load the required custom images for custom skins (ModernCards Ubuntu in this case). However if I move them to /usr/lib/jriver/Media Center 21/Data the resources will load correctly by the skin.

Got that. Fixed in the next release.

Awesome Donkey:
Great, thanks! :)

I also notice there's duplicate skins files in /usr/lib/jriver/Media Center 21/Skins when they also exist (from being converted from that directory?) in the ~/.jriver/Media Center 21/Skins directory. I'll try cleaning it out except the custom skin and see what happens.
