"Year" Property & Editing Track Prop
« on: August 25, 2003, 11:13:58 am »

Hello all,

Sorry for this third new thread of the day, I promise that I won't have any more.  I just updated to 9.1.whatever and am very impressed with some of the changes.  One thing that has puzzled me, however, is that in the list of "visible columns" there was not one for "Year," only for "Album - Year," which does not interest me.  I tried to add one of my own, but apparently I am not familiar with the proper conventions, because either all of the tracks in the library that already have years didn't display them, or I was unable to edit that "Year" property on newly ripped tracks.

I tried searching the forum briefly and spending some time with the help file, but I have yet to figure it out, and the "year" thing is very important to be because of how I choose to "Rename files from properties" and save them all into directories that include the years.

Can anyone either tell me how to properly create a simple "Year" property, or direct me to a place that explains such procedures thoroughly?

Graciously,

Patrick

there is a "Date" field

if you type in Year="1995" in the search mc will find the year.

I have already stated this is confusing to new users

i don't think you can add year since it is already in use

no one ever listens to me

Thank you. :)

I have changed it to show the "Date" column instead of "Year," and it's pretty much back to what I had grown accustomed to.  I have always used that column for release dates anyway, so "Date" might even be a better classification.

I just have to change the property in "Rename files from properties" and it should continue doing exactly as I'd like it to.

What prompted the change?

There is also a "Date (year)" field that shows only the year part of the date.

(we switched from year to date to better handle media like images and videos where just year isn't enough)

Year as part of date is fine but I've lost the "year" tag from previous versions. For example an old photo scanned manually was from 1938 and the tag appears to be still there (see below, when I eventually worked out that file properties were in Action Window).  The year(date) is 2001 as that was when it was scanned.

Can I grab the original year field and set up a new field called "Year something else" and import it?
