Title: choosing the right volume control

i have a wryed 4 sound DAC-2v2SE. would it be better to use the dac Variable volume or use the fixed volume on the dac and jriver Internal Volume?

I use Internal Volume exclusively.  Your wants, likes, and needs may differ. The basic question is; where do you want to control volume?

Both MC and your DAC use high precision digital volume controls.  MC internal volume has twice the precision of the DAC volume control, but either has plenty of precision for your needs.  The chances are you will not hear any difference between them. But, you can disable both of them, so  try comparing MC volume with you DAC volume disabled and the disable MC volume and use your DAC volume control.  If you cannot hear a difference, then use the one that is more convenient.  You could probably use both and it would sound the same.  As long as digital volume controls do not do an A to D conversions, they should have not effect on the sound.
