Woah,
Nice one king.

Also, one thing, U always use 'Batch' for your buttons. I know technically that's what it is but it's a bit of a technical word.

Why not just:

everything is Automatic

Stores In Media Tag
Stores In Media Center Database

If You Put All Your Files Into Playing Now And you Press Auto. It Will Upload your Lyrics To The Database And Download Ones You Need That Is In The Lyrics Database.

Currently I Am Writing A Program That will Take The Free DB Database Rip Out The Artist Name and Songname (it is working now). this will create a Huge List.

with this list I can write another program to search lyrics sites and download all the lyrics it can find.

================================

this lyrics finder seems to work and if you wish to demo it. there is a link at www.spartasoft.com at the bottom of the page.

you should first test it on some test files.

if it then works for you then if you could submit as many files you have with lyrics it may help the database i currently have (about 4,000 lyrics) but they are from songs that have hit the top 100

give good feedback not "this Sucks" thats not helpful

it seems to be cool spara :)
hope that would be integerated not as just a plugin in the next beta of media center !

Tommy

with the new way plugins work it basically is incorporated into Media Center - all the plugins can run all the time so he could, if he wanted, set it to monitor your whole library and set it so that every week it tried to find lyrics for any songs still lacking them automatically. Your library would then basically get more and more complete as the main db got more complete.

Downloaded the test program and Im getting Client Authentication popups quite a bit ...

Also had a few files download an HTML page from your www2.spartasoft.com site ... listing all the letters of the alphabet ... etc ... LOOKS like this happens when the artist begins with a number or a special character !!!

How about adding a running total of LYRICS FOUND like all your other plugins ?

I submitted a dozen or so .. let me know how it goes .. ive got about 3600 to submit
Will you be doing cleanup on your end ? (ie, Initial Caps the words, change [comma] to "," and other basic cleanup

what are you talking about?

if your talking about the registration page, did you register it?

if not i may need a picture.

need artist name and songname so i can check it out and fix it.

I think that 'Client Authentication' comes when artist or song name has ´ instead of font '   or for example scandinavian letters (åöä)

1st notice that the picture above has been updated.

How about adding a running total of LYRICS FOUND like all your other plugins ?

now the program counts uploads and downloads of lyrics and saves this info to the registry. it can also be cleared.

the version number is now displayed on the tab

"(" and ")" is now filtered out of the file name when submiting.

yes i removed abounch of buttons now there is only one.

Just put all your files in playing now and press it. it will not overwrite lyrics you already have (anything in your lyrics field over 19 chrs is not over written).

Like here in the title...

that problem has nothing to do with this program then

here is the lyrics for that artist and song as they are stored on the system:

Artist Name: Zombies
Song Name: She's Not There

Start Lyrics:
She's Not There
by the Zombies

Well no one told me about her
The way she lied
Well no one told me about her
How many people cried
But it's too late to say you're sorry
How would I know, why should I care
Please don't bother trying to find her
She's not there
Well let me tell you about the way she looked
The way she acted, the color of her hair
Her eyes were soft and cool, her eyes were clear and bright
But she's not there
Well no one told me about her
What could I do
Well no one told me about her
Though they all knew
But it's too late to say you're sorry
How would I know, why should I care
Please don't bother trying to find her
She's not there
Well let me tell you about the way she looked
The way she acted, the color of her hair
Her eyes were soft and cool, her eyes were clear and bright
But she's not there
(solo)
But it's too late to say you're sorry
How would I know, why should I care
Please don't bother trying to find her
She's not there
Well let me tell you about the way she looked
The way she acted, the color of her hair
Her eyes were soft and cool, her eyes were clear and bright
But she's not there

Yes, "Zombies -  She's Not There" is just fine. I just edited those scandinavian letters to what i was playing, so you can see what letters causes problems.

Point was that if there is scandinavian letter or the other font for '  that client auth... will come

Understood.

But because there is screwed up text thats a "client auth" problem?

does not mean the same thing here

client auth would mean registration problem or when loging in to the FTP site.

Yes, it does sound weird. I tried to get batch/get lyrics yesterday and always when my song had scandinavian letters the same window appeared (about 100 times).

Here is picture where i tried to get lyrics for the song with scandinavian letters.
I hope it helps

that looks like it is your windows system security.

I am sure that has nothing to do with my program.

as a matter of fact it is a anonymous login

Username: anonymous

did you click on the button "more Info"?

It opens windows help.

If it's my windows system security, then i don't understand why it works with all the other(english languaged) files ?

I would thought that it has something to do with US and European key mappings.
But it's not big deal for me, because most of my songs are the english ones  ;D

fixes about 10 bugs.

make sure your using that.

It works now with v.0.03  :) I just submitted couple of finnish songs with those scandinavian letters with no problems.

Then i deleted lyrics from these files and i got them back from your server!

This is very nice King!

KingSparta,

I just tried your new plugin (0.0.2) and uploaded lyrics for several songs (Garbage, Evanescence, etc ...).

The count for the lyrics submitted and received did not increment for me during this process (about 87 files). The two fields simply remained blank.

Nice Plugin, it will be nice to have a centralized location for all these lyrics when this gets finalized.

thanks for the uploads

that problem about the counter was fixed in version 0.0.3

and i just uploaded it for download it should also remove "The" from the artist name

Like "The Beatles"should be "Beatles"

okay, I must be crazy. I just downloaded your file (the download lyrics finder.zip link has the incorrect hyperlink - BTW) and have 0.0.2

I'll try the OCX and see if that gives me 0.0.3

Okay, I have 0.0.4 now (the download link still points to a file named "Download Lyrics Finder.zip").

On the setup tab, you have the button labeled "cover art default"

The incremental number work correctly now.

Also, do we create problems for you if we submit the same songs more than once?

I ask because I added a few songs to Playing Now and wanted to send those lyrics also. Since I can only send the entire list, the previous songs got sent a second time.

If this creates a problem for you, let me know and I won't do it again.

I get random crashes while running this plugin ... But the Authentication Popup seems to be gone ..

have not noticed but a few, can't find the problem. I could put the traps in but then i would never find it.

yes, i check for a few things.

Quote
Authentication Popup seems to be gone

I am striping everything but a to z and 0 to 9 now.

0.0.5 is up

0.0.5 should fix a problem with the program downloading HTML source into the lyrics field. that was really weard, and had nothing to do with the program but rather the server was sending an error message to the program and the program thought it was lyrics.

I have close to 40,000 lyrics on the site now, i started with about 5,000 this morning. been typing my ass off.

I have 2 web sites

you need to go to http://www.spartasoft.com as i stated above it is on the bottom of the page.

it is not on my other website or J river.

0.0.6 now checks the lyrics server for the lyrics before a user sends it to the server.

songs having lyrics does not update them

I made it that way, i did not want to screw someones lyrics up so i did it this way.

(there is an option you can't see that already has the overwrite tags)

Quote
if the plugin is downloading a lyrics for example to the lates song in an album of 4 songs and you clicked on the second song while downloading for the last song it saves the results on the second instead of the last.

the fix, don't do that!

I will turn off the list or something.

Quote
must prompt before saving to the songs or make it get the lyrics and store them temporary until i select the songs i wanna update and click a button!

I will add this, and allow the user to turn it on or off

give me some time i was on vacation tomorrow, i deed to go back to work.

I did a check of resources during a scan .. and the number of "Handles" just slowly ramps up to about 15,500 ... then MC locks up .. As soon as MC closes (aka crashes) the handles go back to a normal LOW number ... does that help .. Im on WinXP Pro ..

I've uploaded 153 and received 243, so thanks to all that have uploaded. I now have many more songs with lyrics.

my uploaded song count doesn't increment any more for duplicates which is a very nice addition King!

I still have 324 songs with no lyrics (yeah, my library is small compared to some here).

It seems some people have blank Artist And Song Fields, and i was not checking for this since mine are all filled in.

:'(

it now checks to make sure they do not = blank if so it will not try.

let me know if 0.0.07 this fixes the problem.

give me a sample, and i will check the orginal. it may be the orginal lyrics file if so then it is not really a problem with the program but rather a proplem with the person who submited it's orginal lyrics file.

i don't see anything cut off from the orginal file, there are a few that maybe missing a chr or two ut i think they were that way orginaly.

I did not have time to work on the program today, but i think it works. and will put the traps in. i have done some tests with about 75,000 files, and no crashes and no problems.

I think sometimes some systems may cause problems or maybe network \ internet problems.

they are missing in the orginal

this may have happened when using that other program i had, it sometimes cut off the last chr and it was submited.

I don't see this as a problem with tis program.

even more so since i am adding and replacing Lyrics as i can find them.

32,733 and counting.

I had 1600 songs with (comma) or [comma] in it somewhere ... didnt count the (lf10) songs :)

I will delete these lyrics and redo them ... will the new version have clean tags ?
Title: Re: Lyrics Finder - Something I Am Working On

King,
Are you saying you will filter Out on submission or server side processing (after the fact) ?

And, when you say Filter Out - Do you mean "clean up"  I dont want [comma] REMOVED .. I want it replaced with an actual comma :)

Also, does this mean I can delete all the lyrics with (lf10) in them and re-get them and they will be all "better" ?

I know, Im tedious :)
Title: Re: Lyrics Finder - Something I Am Working On
Post by: KingSparta on July 17, 2003, 02:01:36 pm
did you try it?

here is the code

Quote
   MyLyrics.Text = Replace(MyLyrics.Text, "(LF10)", vbCrLf)
   MyLyrics.Text = Replace(MyLyrics.Text, "[ QUOTE ]", ChrW$(34))
   MyLyrics.Text = Replace(MyLyrics.Text, "[ COMMA ]", ChrW$(44))

since the orginal info was in all caps it will replace:

[ QUOTE ] With a "
[ COMMA ] With a ,

if they are not in all upper case it will not replace them, are you saying in your Lyrics contains [comma] and not [ COMMA ]?

what i don't understand is why you just don't use find and replace in MC9 and Change [X] Lyrics from [COMMA] to "

that will work just as well.

I have ben replacing the [comma]s with "," and
Quote
s with " ....

But I figured ur DB could handle this before it gets to the end users ..

BUT ... and a big BUT .. I have yet to find a way to replace a (lf10) with a Carriage Return !!!
Title: Re: Lyrics Finder - Something I Am Working On

well if you download the one I just put up it should work on lower case also.

Yesterday I Had about 32,000 Lyrics Right Now I Have Over 42,000+ Lyrics

I Should Have More Soon

What I Did was write a program to scan the FreeDB database and pull out artist names and Song names and save that to another database that I have another program scanning the internet for Lyrics and then saving them to my Lyrics database.

When you use the new "Lyrics Finder" program, aval at http://www.spartasoft.com it will find any new lyrics and save them to your files and also add any lyrics you have to My lyrics database.

It will take sometime to scan the FreeDB database but I should have a bunch more each day.

You ROCK!

Honestly, I always hoped lyrics searching would make its way into MC9...now, more folks have to help me populate prog metal/nu metal genres!  Unless I'm the only one who listens to Dream Theater, SYL or Soilwork... :)

well here it is in a net shell

Lyrics are copyrighted and J river does not have rights to them (nor does any of the lyrics sites).

but this is a legal issue and JimH does not want to setup a lyrics site and be put in jail (AKA: Orange Jump Suits).

I on the other hand have nothing anyone wants and i live in a home the size of two walk in closets one for my computer and the other for my wife and her Tivo.

I finally got to try the plug-in and it is excellent! I didn't see this potential bug mentioned, but it appears to slow down significantly anytime it reaches an artist that begins with a number (311, 50 Cent). No big deal, but in case you're interested in bug reports.  ;D Regardless, worked like a charm so thanks!

it could be many things

network
long lyrics file
server busy

but i did notice what your talking about and i will look into it a bit more. if anything something to tell you whats going on.

normaly the slow down will be when it is getting lyrics from the server.
