Group or sort? Grouping is different than sort. Do you want to group e.g. by [album artist] - [album] [File Type] so that your mp3 and flac files of the same album are grouped separately

If that is the case you can create new calculated library field with rule [Album Artist (auto)] - [Album] /[[File Type]/] and use that to group your files

If it still doesn't work, perhaps we're talking about different things. Where/what exactly are you trying to sort? Generally speaking, you can sort Views and Playlists. You can try out different sorting orders simply by clicking on the Column Headers of your file list. The order of the clicked columns determines the final sort order.

Looking to replace basic speakers for my laptop wth a nicer setup for music listening.  Budget is $300-$500 and would like the best options in this price range.  Will consider going a bit higher if there is a noticeable difference in quality.  Any suggestions?  I have looked at some systems from Audio Engine and Edifier on Amazon.

Aside from budget, the only constraint is space on my desk and would like smaller speakers, all things being equal.  If it is necessary to get somewhat larger speakers for the best quality, will consider a solution like mounting on wall.  Can go with a subwoofer below desk.

Are there any standouts in this price range or suggestions of brands to look at?

I first came across JRiver Media Center about 15 years ago.  I started building a pretty good size library, then after a few years stopped using it (probably because did not spend a lot of time listening to music on my desktop then).

This has changed now that I work remotely at home, using my work laptop to play Media Center files when not listening to internet radio.  Now I can enjoy the program fully and have a reason to invest time in it again.

Here is the problem I am running against: back then I did not do a very good job at ripping many disks in my collection.  When I rip disks now, I go to a lot of trouble to make sure the metadata is good (or download alternate data if not), and make sure everything is indexed clearly and completely.  I didn't do that back than and some disks have poor or incomplete metadata.

Here is my question: is it possible to download new metadata to old rips, one at a time?  Or can it only done at the time of the rip only?  I can go through the process of re-ripping my disks as needed but it would be easier to not have to do that.

Thank you both. The files are ape and wma. Only WMA is supported by the DAC. My network server is hosted on a Mac and it looks like White Bear only works on a Windows computer. JRiver in my Mac does show the MXN10 under Playing Now and I have it highlighted. I can get it to play WMA files if I use JRiver directly from the computer but not with the app on my phone. I’ll try to play with some settings.

Never mind!

Did some tests and it seems that the relational category "Store one value for each album" already takes into account the Album Artist in some way.

Thanks anyway  :)

Hi,

Is it possible to add a new relational category for library fields ?
I use many custom library fields using the relational category "Store one value for each album", but I run into problems when different artists have albums with identical names (ex.: Journey - Escape VS Enrique Iglesias - Escape  ;D).

Having a new relational category like "Store one value for each album artist\album" would solve this issue.

Thanks in advance!

Build 44 allows you to select a custom templates file in Theater View Options.  You can select any file you place in {Library Directory}\Templates.  The pre-MC32 templates file (text-based) is placed there automatically for selection.  This means no more re-importing your backup when there are changes to the default (if you select a different file in Options).
WHOO-HOO!!! Thank you!!!

As you can see from the header it came from our machine so it’s not phishing.
The mailing list for mc32 owners tried to send a message to you which originally failed. This is an issue on the server end, usually caused by your mail server doing greylisting or other temporary issues. Eventually the notice of this issue was delivered from the mailing list to your inbox with a way to retrieve the archived message. You can ignore these messages.

MC can sort by whatever order you like, as long as you have the correct data in the tags.
Try using [File Type] instead of [Audio Codec]. The Audio Codec seems to be a custom field added by you, so it may not have the correct info.
