Within the last 2 or 3 weeks, I have lost the ability to hear the sound of mp3, wav files and CDA played in Media Center 11.1.201.
They show "playing" in the player allright with the timer and play line going but no sound.
They play allright in WMP ver 9 and Winamp ver 5.2
Video files (asf, avi, mpeg, mpg, wma ) plays alright with the sound coming through ok in MC 11.
No virus to my knowledge as I run Mcaffee regularly and manually 1-2 times /week
Soundcard is onboard SIS 7012
There have been some changes in my computer lately since that time but not sure if anything significant
I have enjoyed MC 11 for some time previous to now with sound .
Here are changes in computer (last Month)
1. Had to reduce Windows Video "hardware accelleration" to about 1/2 to get my Video mpg files to play properly
2. Had a complete win XP crash involving setting change to Bios to read harddrives and CD/DVD drive
3. Reinstalled MC 11 with update 11.1.201 within last few days
4. I may have switched sound setting in MC 11 somewhat and not sure what they are

Try changing options/playback from DirectSound to Wave Out or vice versa.

Thanks Jim
My sound is now working fine in MC11
I tried changing options in MC 11 Audio/output mode to a) direct sound and b) primary sound driver.
For some reason my windows mpeg layer 3 audio codec was
on "do not use this codec" . I turned it back on
Then rebooted computer
the sound volume level was on minimum in MC 11 ... I turned it up and
VOILA .... there was sound :)
don't know which one fixed it but all is well
Dan
PS sound also in Winamp and WMP
