Title: JRiver as external player in kodi
Post by: beatelund on April 26, 2023, 02:31:06 pm
im trying to get kodi to work with jriver as a external player but i cannot get jriver to start playing any movies.
it works with mpc-be, so my configuration in kodi must be correct.

Kodi closes and opens jriver but i only come to the display window but no movie is playing
and if i close jriver kodi comes up again.

So everything works exept jriver isnt playing the movie...

i use kodi 20.1 and jriver 30

anybody have an idea??

I've now tried that solution but couldn't get it to work quite right unfortunately so I've thrown in the towel. If an update is released for MC31 that makes it much easier to use as an external player for Kodi (which I need for the PreShow Experience add-on) I'll gladly purchase a license. I'm trying mpv and it's working fairly well but it's relatively tech heavy without a GUI. I think MC could position itself as an easier alternative.

Why can't you use JRiver, without Kodi?

Two reasons. 1) I prefer the look of the Kodi front end and the selection of skins, like Rapier and Aeon Tajo. 2) The PreShow Experience add-on is an absolute necessity for my home theater (before the movie it plays trivia with music, video bumpers/intros, movie trailers, action files to control my Philips Hue lights, etc). For our May the 4th movie night, for example, it's nice to have Star Wars trivia, Star Wars music and personalized Star Wars themed intros before the trailers and feature film, like these for example:

Here are intros for Halloween season:

A trailers intro for Star Trek films:

These play for all other genres:

These are only a few examples. The PreShow Experience add-on for Kodi allows me to create a fully immersive theater-like experience at home, something I can't get anywhere else.

There is a pre-show feature.

Take a look at the JRVR thread and Murray's recent posts.

Also the very long thread on icons.  User lepa

In fact, I've used pre-show in the past and it worked great.

Also on MC you can use Rapier skin https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,69662.msg473480.html#msg473480
