Facebook is sponsoring a project to define 'open' racks, servers, networking and storage blades.
The storage blade is to have the space to hold 30 2.5" drives, mechanical or SSD, multiple raid controllers, and multiple i/o paths.
HP and Foxconn are also contributing to the project.

HP is trying to position themselves to be a leader in commodity servers when ProLiant finally dies. They waited too long to sell them off.
