stunning mate! looks like prototype XP Longhorn - mabe you could look up screenshots of that for inspiration. Keep it up - that's going to be a really cool skin!

Looks REALLY nice dude.

I'd say just keep it simple and clean using those two colours for the top and it'd probably be a great skin.
Doesn't have to be fancy to be nice.

looks nice man...
keep up with the good work :)

thanks for the replies..

I was thinking of making the status bar (file info) tan and the action window blue and have the player display at the top tan with a blue background.. Would that be too much contrast or should I just leave it as it is?

Hopefully I'll have something this weekend.

Ok. I have the first beta going.

I didn't do the player buttons yet as I'm getting tired and need a break from this thing. I'll get to it eventually. I also don't know about the sliders yet. I'm still experimenting.

nice work dragyn. really nice.

I could see this being my "skin of choice" for some time. Only just installed, so this is based on 1st visual impressions. Will post if I find any problems. Can't wait for the controls to be done......

Need to knock up a pn skin to go with this :)

thank you for sharing with us.

So far I redone the player display area a tad. Looks much better IMO.
Gonna work on new sliders and player buttons this week.

Post by: dragyn on January 27, 2004, 09:34:41 pm
ok, beta 3 is up.

I skinned the splitters and did not add a handle. I think most will know how to move it? I think it looks cleaner this way.

Still have to do the player buttons. I'm stumped on what to do.

still using it. still think it's a great skin too.

Thanks for the updates dragyn.

Give yourself a pat on the back and feel good about your creation :)

The corner edges of the playbar and the search bar have to be the player background color
and i have a comment on something which is : can you draw a different playbar player control instead of blue steel ones ?

good work :)

ToMy00, I have no idea what you mean.

The player buttons are coming. Nothing is coming to me at the moment. If there are buttons that look better, could you post them here?

Thanks.

Post by: jleerigby on January 29, 2004, 11:38:46 am
Wow.  Well done Dragyn this is a great skin.

The only thing I changed is what I always change with every skin - but that's just my personal preference.  I use List_Rating.gif from the WMP skin (thanks Tomy00) with all skins 'cos I just think it's the right colour for ratings.  I also prefer to see some colour in the toolbar buttons too so I changed the transcolor to FFFFFF.

I love the look and feel of this skin Dragyn.  Thank You.

We got recursive folder view back (Thank you very much to jriver for putting that back in).
Unfortunately, Dragyn, it seems to have caused a slight drawing bug in the Opus skin....

Blue steel draws like so...

While opus does like so...

Note the "left/right" navigation buttons to the left of "single folder"? If it doesn't do this for you right away, try maximising, then restoring MC. Is this fixable via the main.xml file, or is more technical intervention required?

Dragyn, I think ToMy00 was referring to these bits (circled):

I love this skin by the way, has a nice feel to it, good work :).

By the way, what's the name of the font I need to download that you have in your screenshot?
Title: Re:Opus MC (Beta 6)
Post by: dragyn on February 03, 2004, 06:14:38 pm
It's the font size causing that. 8 brings the window up, while larger fonts push it down.
I'll try and fix that.

The font is Lucida Grande size 10 in the screenshot.

Post by: KingSparta on February 03, 2004, 06:18:40 pm
some video cards are better than others and maybe why you can see it in one and not the other.
Title: Re:Opus MC (Beta 6)
Post by: dragyn on February 04, 2004, 01:51:58 am
Here's what I found out.. If you use size 8, you'll get those corners. If you use size 10, you don't because the image goes down. There's no way I can fix this. I can get the image right, but then the text (and other things) are off center.

MC repositions everything and offsets all my stuff. There's other areas where this happens, not just the display area. There needs to be a fixed size and the font then should center in the images. So until they fix it, I would use 10 point.

Other areas affected are: toolbar, action window, search bar

Redoing everything to 8 point would take awhile. If you do switch fonts, you will need to restart MC for everything to work.

Ah thanks for the explanation.  I did wonder because I checked your screenshot and noticed the difference.  I'll switch fonts :).

Dragyn,
I like the look of your skin and want to install it. Im accessing the internet through a proxy SSL tunnel so MC can't work through it.
Can you post a link to the zip file so I can just download it using a download manager.
I normally replace the .mjb with .zip and it downloads the package but it does not work with this.
Cheers,
Rich

Thanks for the replies everyone! I added new player buttons. I know they don't look all that great but it's something different at least.

Thanks to MartinH for fixing the corners in the display area. I'd still recommend a larger font (than 8 point) as it pushes the display down where it's suppose to be.

I'll most likely be making more changes. If anyone has something, please post it here.

Dragyn -

Looks great, especially since this is the visual style im using.  However I've adjusted my font to size 10, restarted, and still have a messed up search box, also the entire category filter bar is black.  Here's a link to a screen cap so you can see what I mean.

any ideas?

Post by: dragyn on February 11, 2004, 07:41:32 pm
I guess that's because of 9.1. I can fix the black bar...not sure yet about the search box.
I'll install 9.1 and see if I can fix things up.

Thanks for the screenshot. It helps a lot.

Edit: I was able to fix both. Thanks.

Thanks Cascius!

Martin, I changed the background color (was transparent) to the base color. Let me know if that works for ya.

As for me, the only things that bug me is the volume slider, maybe the tree selection...haven't really played with it that much...and the player buttons a bit. I'll most likely be tweaking those areas whenever I get a chance.

I don't think I specified another color.

What color would you want it to be?

I wish they would add a background color for the current track because it's hard to match a color between white and black. I can't see what's playing half the time.

Post by: dragyn on February 21, 2004, 01:37:52 pm
Thanks again everyone!

This skin could be better but there's some limitations in MC. Maybe the JCrew could fix some of these for me:

<Frame> "CloseButton", "MaximizeButton", "MinimizeButton", and "RestoreButton" doesn't use mouse over images.
<GroupBox> "CaptionArea' is extending the right side too far when there's a & in the text.
<Scrollbar> "Background" is only using the first image for all types. Handles and Arrows change but background doesn't.
Using a large font doesn't stretch MainFrame_TopBorder to make fit.
Progress Background doesn't use transparency in AW. (This was your thing MartinH.)

Some things I would want MC to do:

<List> "CurrentBack" (can't really see the colors)
<Tab> "Back" Color/Bitmap (looks weird with no color)
<ActionWindow> Option to not use a back color. Rather use the template image for the whole AW.

I added "Opus MC Large" to the downloads. This should fix the clipping problem. I know it clips the display text a little bit but I don't know if that's fixable....at least I know of no way of doing it.

Hope it works for all of you using large fonts for your TV's or whatever.

I'll look into it. I never made a track info template before. I know it's just HTML and whatnot and I've never really did that before either.

I started on the "Deep" version already. I don't know about the Olive one yet. Not sure when I'll get done with those.

Also not sure about making a MJ8 Opus skin. I could do it with little modification to this one. Depends what kind of modivation I get I guess.

Hey Dragyn,

How did you open the Opus theme? (Xp) I downloaded it and unzipped it to windows/resources/themes

Opened Display, Clicked on Themes, But there doesn't seem to be a theme file??

(Please note this does not relate to the Opus MC skin)
Title: Re:Opus MC
Post by: dragyn on February 24, 2004, 05:26:09 pm
I used Style Builder from TGTSoft.com to extract the images and then edited them all to fit MC.

If you mean about using the xp skin for your OS, then you will need to use a patched uxtheme.dll (recomended) or StyleXp. Both are on that site above.

Great work! Love the skins!

The Opus MC (Large) skin might be nice with slightly thicker left & right borders, and splitters. The current ones look a bit too "delicate" perhaps?

Still my skin of choice, however.
Title: Re:Opus MC
Post by: dragyn on February 29, 2004, 06:27:11 am
I can do whatever you want. I just slapped it all together mainly looking at the top. I can make the other images thicker without any problems.

edit: left, right, top, and splitters are now 2 pixels bigger.

Thanks cattani! gpvillamil, do those new sizes work for you?

Added Olive to the set. Titanium (Opus OS v2.0) will be done once that is out.

Added checkbox icons to each color scheme. Rename file (see first post in this thread) to smallicons.png and put in "Default Art"/"Custom Art" directory. I'm not sure if those could be used in the skin itself, so there they are anyway.

Also updated all 3 versions. Please update your copy.

Mine too, I got mine from windowblinds...thanks for a great skin!

I have noticed a couple of things, a button separator & the left pane closed, which look a little odd, don't know if you are able to fix them or not...

Either way, thanks again!
Title: Re:Opus MC
Post by: dragyn on March 14, 2004, 09:32:53 am
For the seperator, I noticed this too but there's only 2 ways of doing it..

1. make the top bar bigger.
2. make the separator smaller.

Making the top bigger for that looks weird (to me). I can edit the separator and put it for download here. That's probably the best way to do it but it means manually changing the images on your part.

EDIT: I can't seem to find the separator image....  :(

For the left border, it's actually going all the way over in that pic. That's the only way to get the curves. Only fix for that is to remove the curves...then it looks (to me) less 'fancy'. If you don't use the tree, I could make a curveless version and then that won't appear. That's the reason I removed the tree highlight bitmaps because it looked offset but it wasn't.

And I'm glad someone is using the Olive version. I thought I was the only one.  :) Anyone using Deep? Haven't seen any replies on those since they were available.

Thanks for the comments. Penfold, let me know if you want new separator images.
Also note, I'm trying to make a new volume control but haven't had any ideas yet.
Title: Re:Opus MC
Post by: Penfold on March 15, 2004, 01:52:59 pm
Ah well, if you can't find the separator it's cool.

As for the left hand side, well I use the tree quite often, although the above is my usual view so I don't know how your solution would workout  for opening/closing the pane.

As for the volume control, I was thinking bout that (forgive me I'm no designer so this may well be crap):

Drop the slider for space reasons

Have a similar style marker system but with more graduations & getting bigger from left to right, in a curved fashion, NOT in a straight line.

Then have the actual volume 'fill out' (but not 'cover') these graduations in darker yet transparent colour from left to right sizing up along the graduations.

Add the ability to drag the rightmost side of this dark fill to manually adjust volume. Only problem I for see is that at 0% you would have to have a little of the dark fill to click onto, but I would have thought most people r/click on the slider for mute rather than turn it right down? Maybe? Who knows...

Then maybe embolden the 0,25,50,75,100% graduations?

I'd love to draw what I'm on about but getting it on here (it looks fine in my minds eye) would be a problem as my PS from scratch skills are poor.

P.S. Ever thought about skinning Firebird/Firefox?
Title: Re:Opus MC
Post by: jleerigby on March 16, 2004, 04:31:03 pm
Dragyn - I could use the new image to handle the hidden tree.

Getting the tree back isn't an issue for me as I use girder to auto hide the tree when MC opens and then a button on my remote will toggle it on and off when I want.

Ah well, if you can't find the separator it's cool.

I'm making the top and bottom slightly bigger so the separator doesn't run off as much.

Have a similar style marker system but with more graduations & getting bigger from left to right, in a curved fashion, NOT in a straight line.

Then have the actual volume 'fill out' (but not 'cover') these graduations in darker yet transparent colour from left to right sizing up along the graduations....
...Then maybe embolden the 0,25,50,75,100% graduations?

MC is pretty limited on what it can show. I don't think what you are describing is possible at this time.

P.S. Ever thought about skinning Firebird/Firefox?

There are other opus skins out there. Trillian, WMP, Winamp, etc. I'm sure someone has made or is making one for Firefox.

Dragyn - I could use the new image to handle the hidden tree.

I've been trying to make it better in this area but MC just doesn't do what I want and probably won't because images would need to overlap in these areas. As for an image, I could do that or you can edit SVB.bmp in MSPaint using R:237 G:234 B:228 (#EDEAE4) for a background.

Your welcome!  ;)

Here's the colors for the other two:

Deep: R:209 G:214 B:203 (#D1D6CB)
Olive: R:236 G:234 B:221 (#ECEADD)

Also forgot to mention I'm working on new window borders for things like DSP, Options, etc. It's gonna be made to look like the main window. Adding some more shadows too and will eventually get to a new volume control.

Using Opus MC (Deep) and also the desktop. Very nice, thanks!  8)

One bug still: I just noticed that "Volume Options" button on the upper left is missing. I have to temporally change skin if I need those functions. (MC 9.1.317 and 10.0.96)  :(

Title: Re:Opus MC
Post by: dragyn on March 23, 2004, 05:52:06 pm
I'll be making large versions in Olive and Deep once I figure out what's gonna happen with the others.

Volume options were not included because it looked weird to me. I'll be redoing the upper left corner so I'll see what I can do about adding it back in. For now, 'Player/Volume' from the file menu will show the same items. Right clicking on the slider mutes the sound.

I didn't forget about the triangles....it just didn't look right at the time. I'll think about adding something there. Double-clicking the vertical slider will show/hide the tree. Right-clicking the 'Playing Now' horizontal slider will bring up a menu; double-clicking will adjust it to 50%.

Thanks for the input. I'm trying to get this finished but I'm working too much right now and trying to think of ways to do the volume and stuff. The creator of Opus OS is coming out with a Smooth version soon. I'll be doing that one too (of course) and any other colors schemes that may come out.
