Title: JRiver wont Start until a reboot and then it wont close
Post by: bkoch47 on June 03, 2016, 02:57:40 pm
I bought my Dad a new MAC and installed JRiver for his Music collection.  But JRiver exhibits very odd behavior.  When I start from either the desktop or from Apps nothing happens.  The JRiver program does not start no matter how many times I click on its icon.  In fact, instead of bouncing while it is loading ( like other apps)  it gets smaller and nothing happens.  Then it gets odder.  If I reboot the IMAC, JRiver immediately starts up right after the operating system loads, without being asked.  It then plays fine and works great, until I go to shut it down.  When I try and shut it down I get the colorful pinwheel.  After about 10 minutes of the pinwheel going, it shuts down.
Can anyone suggest a solution for this?  Thanks.

Definitely strange.  Make sure that you have Media Center 21.app in the Applications folder.  Sometimes people get confused and put the DMG file in Applications and that won't work correctly.

Check his login items by going to System Preferences > Users & Groups > (His username) > Login Items

Make sure you don't have MC in there.

The shutting down problem could be caused by background activities. I can't remember the first time I set up my Mac-Mini together with the MediaCenter, but your set-up propably was busy reading and importing data or cover art from the library. Or some activities from other programs crossed the closing procedure. I wouldn't be worried if this behaviour only came up the first time you started MC.

Good luck!
