Title: .ass files (subtitles) displayed too small...
Post by: Antoine. on January 03, 2018, 04:28:56 pm
Hi,

I use JRiver MC22 on W10 PCs.

How is it that MPC-HC can read .ass files (subtitles) and display them at the proper size, while MC22 makes them appear minuscule, unreadable?

Thanks,

Antoine

Have you had a look at the settings under;
Options > Video > Subtitles & Language

Set the font, color, and size you want.

Also, you searched the Wiki, didn't you?

Thanks for your answer.

These settings don't allow you to change the font size to a value other than 12, so this part is useless. Furthermore, the point of the ass files is that the files is choosing the font style & size (among other things) so it should work regardless a proper size is set or not.

All other types of subs (srt, sub&idx, etc.) work fine... and these specific subs (V4+ versions of .ass, apparently, I'm not an expert, I'm just reading the file) work properly with other software, so my bet would be on a problem with MC22.

The Wiki are not helpful.

I too prefer a large .ass to a small .ass.

Just saying... (cos someone had to!)  :-\

The setting Video > Subtitles & Language > Subtitle size should work for .ass files.

Indeed, I get well-sized subtitles if I set it at 300%, but it wrecks other subtitles, obviously, so I have to go modify the settings each time I want to change the type of subs in use.

In these .ass subs, the size is set at 20 : if I change it to 60, they then look good in JRiver, but are obviously grotesquely big elsewhere (in MPC-HC, for example) so this is not a solution. But it tells me that JRiver can read the size parameter but just cannot seem to apply it correctly.
