Title: Proper DSD configuration iFi Nano iOne
Post by: Hauk on December 25, 2018, 05:02:35 pm
Greetings gentlemen,

My specs:

Linux Mint 19 Cinnamon, Cinnamon version: 3.8.9., Linux kernel 4.15.0-43
JRiver MC 24.0.42 64 bit

USB connection

IFI Nano iOne DAC

RCA connectors

Stereo Amp

could you please advise me on the correct (native) DSD configuration for my IFI Nano iOne DAC? For instance, the first step under Options > Audio > Audio Device section is confusing already. The dropdown menu contains a myriad options to choose from (please, find the attached print-screen). One of those containing ALSA IFI HD USB Audio is the correct one I assume, but which one?

I’m clueless on other aspects of the settings as well, such as - dsp and output format, memory playback, bitstreaming, volume internal or system?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and Merry Christmas

Try enabling DSD bitstreaming. Also it looks like the Nano iOne requires native DSD playback (since it doesn't support the sample rates needed for DoP), so after enabling DSD bitstreaming under MC's Options > Audio click on Device settings and in that window make sure Output DSD files in native DSD format is checked. There's a chance this setting might be dependant on the kernel version you're using, e.g. the newer the kernel the more likely it'll work but I can't recall if this is indeed the case. Nonetheless give it a try and see if it works.

Thank you very much for your attention to this matter, Mr. Awesome Donkey :)

I followed your instruction. Could you please suggest which device from the dropdown menu (Audio > Audio device) should I choose? Right now, the active device is HW:Card = Audio.DEV=0 [ALSA] iFi (by AMR), HD USB Audio, USB Audio, Direct hardware device without any conversion, but I have no idea whether this is the right choice or not.

Thanks

Actually, that's probably the right choice in this case. I'd always use the hw: outputs if they're available, and you picked the right one it looks like.
