Hi,
This has been an annoyance for a long time, I just keep putting off posting about it.
Whenever I start video playback, I always see part of my Windows Desktop before the playback starts.
Is there a setting somewhere to stop this happening?
GPU is a NVIDIA 1660Ti
Here is a video to show the issue:

Thanks

I had this, and it seems to be related to Windows multiple displays and HDMI EDID. I resolved it by using a hardware EDID device between the HTPC and AVR:

Could also be a video driver problem.

Hmm, interesting, I am running 2 "displays". One HDMI output is only used for the audio, the other for the video.

I see you also use a harmony remote.
Can you remember how you got it to switch back Theater View once in Standard View.
I can send two "escapes" to get out of Theater View, but not sure how to get back, as Ctrl+4 isn't a command harmony has.
Thanks

Try the "Green button"

Try the "Green button"
That launches MC but doesn't switch from Standard to Theater view.
EDIT: The green button isn't launching MC after all, so in fact it isn't doing anything.

Works on my system. I have MC in theater view, scroll over to exit>exit theater view=> mc drops to standard view, then I press the Green Button and mc goes right back to theater view.

Video driver? But are you running Media Server on Windows start?

I'm running the latest Nvidia (primary display) and Intel (hdmi audio) drivers.
Have tried older drivers with same result.
And yes Media server runs at start up.
I'm running Windows 10 BTW.

Strange,
When I press the button I have assigned in MyHarmony to "Green" for the computer device, MC doesn't do anything.
Other buttons do what I expect, but not "green".
Is there an MC option somewhere I might be missing?
When I click on Remotes in Options and go into the devices area the MCE and Keyboard/HID options re both ticked. (Changing/removing these didn't help BTW)

I couldn't really get the work-arounds to be reliable, especially after power outages or PC reboots. I tried many but ended up going with the EDID emulator box. No more headaches.
Screenshot of my current harmony Green button setup. Also attached some batch files that I used for a while.

Whatever you've assigned may not be correct. The Green Button is a standard from WMC remotes. MC works with it.

I used to use Event Ghost when I was using MC on my TV. It intercepted all the remote commands, so I had to program everything I wanted it to do, but it gave me an AMAZING amount of flexibility. I probably still have my config.xml somewhere if someone wants it.

This has nothing to do with drivers, it's caused by the way the video renderer is performing the transition of the swap chain to full screen.
You will always see first the windows desktop with a small rectangle in the middle of the screen and only then the full screen video frame, if you double click on a video file in Windows Explorer and you're using JRVR, for instance.

So if this is a renderer issue, then it should be fixable within JRVR?

The root cause is not MC or JRVR or video drivers. The root cause is Windows hot plug detect, search google for "hot plug detect Pin 19". This mostly affects dual monitors / extended desktop setups.
Basically when Windows detects that one of the connected "monitors" changes resolution, or is shut off, or the input changes etc, Windows "moves/resizes" any full screen apps/video, and even desktop icons, into the top left corner of the screen. Watch the following video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Y3jnk5g4UI
The fix is to trick Windows into thinking that the dual monitor / extended desktop configuration stays constant. Some GPU's have EDID override to get around this, like nvidia Quadro or some newer Intel NUC's. But if your GPU does not, the BEST way to trick Windows is an external hdmi hardware EDID device. I tried many - several active hdmi switches, "monitor detect killer" (pin 19), 4k HD Fury, but the only one that provides ZERO problems ended up being: https://atlona.com/product/at-etu-sync/

Thanks for posting that, tzr916. I added it to the Weird Problems thread.
