Title: How to keep file list sorted by name
Post by: mikepo on January 15, 2022, 12:37:10 pm
In the Panes view, the lower half of the content window lists all selected files. By clicking on the header you can access "Sort All Files by Name (removes grouping temporarily)". How can I make this grouping permanent instead of temporary?

Right click at the left on the name of the view and edit it.

Or add another view.  Right click where you want it.

Try the wiki for details.

Actually that does answer your question.
You edit the view adding a sorting parameter.

Sorry I didn't understand. I've perused the Wiki for quite a while, without success. I've right clicked on the view name, but can discern nothing re sorting parameters. Must be a bit dense.

Refer to my screen shot attached for this answer.

As you can see, I have pulled down the menu on my view, which is called "movie panes".  I've clicked the sort by menu.  Selecting an option here will make it sort the way I want it to.   This should persist after stopping and starting MC.

But I like doing it a different way for more flexibility.  See the far right hand pane that says "sorting" at the top?  That's a pane I added.  It's a "sort list" type Pane.  There are about 5 different kinds of panes and this is one of the most powerful ones.

As you can see, I have several ways I sort my movies, with alphabetical being the default for me.  I use "newest first" a lot too.  You can add your own pane with your own sorting entries if you think that would be useful in the view you are talking about.

Good luck.
Brian.
