Hi,
Does MC25 support or plan to support HEIC? I saw an old thread regarding this in MC24 forum, but nothing else shows up in the search.
Thanks,
Osho

Yes we plan to support HEIC. Not quite sure when we'll get around to it.
-
I look forward to it.
Is it possible to at least manage the HEIC files (e.g. move them to different folders based on the dates when pictures were taken?). Our family has moved to latest iPhones and we have been using HEIC more and more often. It is all getting collected in one folder (with tons of files). I wish I could at least organize it in Year/month folders.
Thanks,
Osho

I have asked for HEIC support more than a year ago. So hopefully MC25 will deliver… I think the problem will be 10 bit support with standard graphic driver. Zoner Photo Studio was claiming HEIC support but they told me only 8 bit with Intel/Windows 10. And the situation shouldn't change soon… You need a professional Nvidia (Quadro) or AMD (Radeon) to get 10 bit with Photoshop. Krita (free Software for Animation) is working with Intel to solve this problem. Till now I didn't find a Viewer which show pictures with 10 bit (like HDR 10). Panasonic is claiming 10 bit suport (HLG Photo) with their new S1R - but no information how to save those files with a program to show it on a (Panasonic) TV. You have to run a HDMI-cable between the camera and the TV. I can't find reports how it works.
The user "antcodd46" in a recent discussion at reddit gives a detailed description about the problem:
"NVIDIA supports a 10-bit desktop for DirectX applications using the new Windows Advanced Color when the HDR/WCG toggle is on. This causes Windows to render in a 16-bit floating point scRGB linear gamma format, where legacy applications are mapped from sRGB into the HDR space. The GPU is then supposed to do a transformation from linear gamma to the st.2084/PQ gamma function used by HDR if the monitor is in HDR mode. Unfortunately no creative apps like Photoshop (other than a Krita alpha) support this Windows Advanced Color API and do indeed still require a Quadro as they tend to use an old OpenGL 10-bit mode. AMD consumer cards cards also do not support windowed OpenGL 10-bit."

Since iOS 11, iPhones have switched to HEIC format by default. I am sure there are tons of folks out there who are using both iPhones and MC. Even if '10-bit support' (details of which I quite don't understand or care to know) isn't there - just show us these pictures (even if it is not the best quality possible) and let us organize it with metadata (date etc.).

Folks to remain the best media player out there, I hope this one is on top of your priority list.
Can't believe I had to reinstall the native Photos app from the windows store to be able to watch my Iphone pics...

Is there a plan to support HEIC in MC26?

It's there already, since 26.0.24.
I havn't been able to do a lot of testing, but it is there. Images import and display correctly, tagging appears to be OK too. I have not tested with iPhone 'HEVC' video files....

tagging appears to be OK too.
If you could test and confirm that, that would be great. I was not able to fully test tagging due to lack of a images.
-
Great. Thanks!
I didn't see HEIC in "New in MC26" sticky thread in MC26 forum. Perhaps, that should be advertised.

It imports fine thanks for adding this feature however tags are missing on import in the library:
Date Taken, Camera Maker, Model, F-stop, exposure, ISO etc...
So no tags are imported and that's with an Iphone 8S Plus
-
Can you send me an image with tags that are not being imported?
I'm at "hendrik at jriver dot com"

Hello Hendrik,
Any updates on this request? Running 26.0.50 but still no tags in MC.
Thx

The next build will include Exif metadata support as found in your sample image, and some XMP support. Reading only, writing will be another can of worms.
-
Reading only is all I need. Thank you sir!

tested with 26.0.107, I fail to load HEIC files taken with iPhone 12 mini. idea?
CopyTrans works just fine on these images.
advice?

Have you tried Media Center 28? There's a chance HEIC support has been improved since Media Center 26.
