Title: "digital static/noise" on playing higher bitrate files
Post by: farreln on September 26, 2015, 05:11:21 pm
I recently upgraded to MC21 running on a mac mini to a PS Audio Perfect wave DAC. Previous version was MC 18. I get only loud/nasty static/noise for some audio tracks and narrowed it down to the more audiophile stuff for example FLAC-3221 kbps,24 bit, 96000 Hz as reported by MC21. Lower res files sound normal/great. All the audio has been on the same system for a few years and played fine. Rebooting, changing audio settings has not helped. Decoding problem files to WAV with xACT and playing on other hardware works so I don't believe the files are all bad. WAV versions of the problem files are also pure noise when played with MC21 -> PS Audio.

Any suggestions as to next steps appreciated.

Thanks,
Norman

Does the DAC support 96 kHz output? You may have to use DSP Studio to sample down to 48 kHz.

Thanks Awesome! My DAC does indeed support 96kHz............however, it restarted at a default 44.1 which I failed to notice - my bad. I set it to 96K and viola!
