When enjoying an evening of good music with friends I like to stop the current track as close as possible to the end to allow for discussion of the track and to lay the groundwork for the next track. I then use "Next" to move to the next track. Sometimes the next track starts immediately and sometimes I need to use "Play" to start it. My problem is that occasionally MC freezes after I hit Play and I get the "Media Center is not responding" message and I have to close and restart. This happens for both playlists and albums, in Standard, Display or Theater view, with all audio file formats. It seems to work fine with just using "Next" without first pausing, but this doesn't work for what I want to do. I disabled both Defender and Real Time AV protection to no avail. I am running MC 29.0.87 (64 bit) on my Win 11 HTPC, fully up to date. MC on this machine is a client of a desktop server. I usually use Gizmo for these evenings but it happens just using the local mouse control of the HTPC as well. It has happened through the last couple of Win 11 updates and MC updates. It does not seem to happen on the Win 10 desktop server running the same MC version. I have tried various Audio/Track Change options, although I realize they should not have any effect.
I doubt that I am the only one who pauses and then moves to the next tune, so I am hoping someone can help me.

Hello, I have similar crashes of MC29 build 87 running on Windows 10, 32bit edition.
I also have crash when resuming from long pause without doing anything else than just a simple regular "push play button" to resume from pause.

Did you configure Windows Defender?

I turned off windows Firewall and Real-time Virus and threat Protection, it made no difference.

Windows Defender.

In Win 11 I have "Windows Defender Firewall" and "Virus and Threat Protection". These are the things I turned off. I'm not sure what you mean by "Windows Defender" if not those things.

Maybe related, sometimes I get 5-10 seconds of fast stuttering if I just use Pause.

Yes, I did all as you recommend as I installed MC29 the first time.
So, in my case, I don't think it is Win Defender.

Any ideas or thoughts on this? The crashes are very frustrating and disruptive in front of an audience of fellow music lovers.

Are you using any antivirus other than Windows Defender? If so, uninstall it.
You can't really turn Windows Defender off. Follow the instructions here:

If you have a crash, please send a crash dump to logs at jriver.
Read the wiki for information on how to turn on logging and report the crash.
Make sure you install the latest build as well.

No other AV software is installed. I had previously done the Taming Windows Defender at the top folder levels, now added lower-level folders (Program Files/J River/Media Center 29, for example). Haven't been able to test results yet.

I already had logging on, cleared log for a clean report if i capture it again. I do have the latest build 29.0.87 (64 bit) installed, although this problem has existed through several builds and possibly back to V 28.
