Title: Keep Getting "Media Centre Not Responding" Error
Post by: baldo on September 30, 2022, 08:07:41 am
I keep getting the above error on Media Centre.

I have even done a complete uninstall and reinstall and yet I keep getting the same error.

I can either shut it down or wait for it to respond. If I wait, and wait ... and wait, nothing happens so I just shut it down.  I have even done a restart of the machine several times.

What is causing this?  I have been using  MC for several years now and am on version 28 which I installed last year.

I even rebuilt my PC and did complete fresh install of windows 10, after a complete reformat of the hard drive.

I have the same program on a laptop and that is working fine. So what on earth is going on here?

Oh, and I have done the uninstall, reinstall and then restore the library and I still get the same thing happening.

Please help.

Try working through the wiki troubleshooting guide here: https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Troubleshooting_Guide (https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Troubleshooting_Guide)
After doing this you may be able to post more specific information relating to your problem which may enable another forum member to assist you.

Something I personally always do is to create a new test library with a few media files on local storage to see if that suffers the same problem.

Without any details of your library size, media storage, what specific MC28 operation (if any) that causes the problem, anti-virus setup etc., it is very difficult to assist.

Good luck,

Terry

Thanks for that Terry.

I will give it go and come back with more specific points.

Why should the size of the library make a difference. Is MC not supposed to be for people with LARGE music libraries? If I only had a few albums or tracks then I would not need something like MC.

Thanks again.

MC has been tested with libraries with millions of files and it works fine. I myself have over 130,000 FLAC music files in my library and MC handles it like a champ. You can try the stuff in the troubleshooting guide like Terry mentioned, but I'd also look into taming Windows Defender (or whatever antivirus app(s) you're using) if you haven't already along with try disabling auto-import and see if the crashing stops.

Of course MC is suitable for large libraries, I was merely suggesting that a test library can sometimes be useful in fault finding an issue with an existing library (large or small).
Good luck with your fault finding.

Check your settings for file locations, in case you have something set to a drive that doesn't exist.

You could try logging and looking at the bottom of the log.
