Title: Media Jukebox is Retired Now
Post by: JimH on October 19, 2016, 01:32:45 pm
We are retiring Media Jukebox.  JRiver began working on Media Jukebox in 1998.  The last version published was Media Jukebox 14 and was released in 2010.

This thread lists a few of the many benefits of switching to the more modern JRiver Media Center.

Media Jukebox was an audio only program and it was built for a different time.  Networked audio was less common and phones weren't used as remotes.

JRiver Media Center added video, images, and television.  As Media Jukebox was notable for its high quality audio, Media Center is also recognized for its high quality video.

Play Anything Anywhere
Media Center has very strong network features.  You can find out more about them by reading the Media Network topic (http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Media_Network) on our wiki.

Control it with a Remote
One of the key features of Media Network is the support for Remotes (http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Remotes).  This includes:

The hardware Media Center Remote (http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Media_Center_Remote) -- The same "Green Button" remote that worked with Windows Media Center.

JRemote (http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/JRemote) -- Remote control from an iPhone or Android device

Gizmo (http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Gizmo) -- Remote control from Android

Both JRemote and Gizmo can also be used to play media in another location, away from home.

Tremote (http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Tremote) -- You can use one copy of Media Center to control another copy on a different computer, using the same interface.

Panel (http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Panel) -- A web app that provides remote control from any device that runs a browser.

Audio Only Option
If you only want to use audio The user interface of MC can be simplified (http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Simplified_Interface) to show audio only or audio and images, for example.

Other Reasons to Switch
Cover art lookup has many improvements and access to a high quality database.

When a track is selected, there are links at the top of the content pane to web resources like Google, Wikipedia, and Youtube.

Youtube videos can be viewed in MC.

Improved DLNA and UPnP support.

Support for High Res formats like DSD.

Mac and Linux versions are available and a single Master License is available for all 3 OS's.

Media Jukebox libraries can be converted to Media Center libraries automatically.

Just download (https://www.jriver.com/download.html) and install Media Center 22.  You can purchase from the Help menu.  During the process, you can enter any coupon you may have received.
