When I am editing a tag in tag editor and it pattern matches an existing entry in my library, it will automatically highlight the string I am entering. When that happens any key I press next (other than the right arrow, which clears the highlight) will overwrite everything I have just entered.

If I get what you are doing, it seems to do the same in Windows.
I think that's the expected behavior.
I click off of the tag itself to clear the select when just changing one or a few characters.

I'm not seeing the same behavior in Windows. I get the drop down options when it pattern matches, but it doesn't highlight the text.
To be more clear, I attached a video of the problem, the first attempt at editing the tag in the tag edit window is on Linux and the second is on my Windows machine. On the Linux machine the tag is highlighted and subsequently overwritten by my continued typing, on Windows I can write in the full tag (Indie;Electronic) and save it without a problem.

Looking at your video, it looks like you can start typing and at some point it jumps out of the edit box?
Doesn't make a lot of sense to me and I can't duplicate it on my machine. It sounds like there is a window focus stealing issue perhaps by your window manager?
-
It doesn't jump out of the edit box, it stays in the edit box and highlights all of the text in the edit box.
-
Looks the same as what i found too. (without the awesome video)
For me it selects the whole text in the current field each key press.

This should be good in the next build (62) just out.

In 25.0.62 there is still some weirdness with the backspace button selecting all of the text in the tag edit box. So when I hit backspace a few times out of habit (to delete a long string of text), the first backspace will delete a character and highlight the whole string, the next backspace will then overwrite the string, and the next backspaces will start cycling back through my previous views (the tag edit box loses focus).

This only happens for me on VNC instances.

Still happens for me in gnome-shell.
This is the same as my original problem as i'm usually backspacing to put in a semicolon

Ok, we'll give it another look...
-
It will be fixed in the next build.
That was a bugger to track down!

The tag editor in 25.0.71 is working great for me. Thanks!

Glad you found it!
