Title: Forced upgrade to 15
Post by: MitchellK on December 01, 2010, 11:04:14 am
After successfully running various version of Media Centre 14, today I opened it to play a song and was RUDELY interrupted by a message telling me that I had no choice but to install an update to continue using Media Centre and Media Centre would NOT work unless I installed it. So what choice did I have but to install it and what did it do ?? It upgraded me to version 15 and LOST my entire version 14 library.

What is this all about? First of all when I puchased 14 I was told it was a lifetime purchase for that version of the product. I am very happy with version 14 as it does everything I need and I never intended upgrading to 15. Now I get forced to upgrade and on top of it your software loses the database, what kind of upgrade is that.

Please Explain.

Please try again.  It was my mistake.  It should work now.  I'm sorry for the error.

Your library isn't lost.  You can restore any MC14 library backup to MC14 or MC15.

Hi Jim

Thanks for the quick reply and explanation.

I'm unsure as to what to try again as it has now already installed version 15. Must I simply reinstall version 14 over it? Will I get my old database back?

Unless you uninstalled MC14, it's still there.  Just run it.

Phew (as I wipe the sweat off my forehead)

Thanks Jim, it's there ... and all intact. Much appreciate your incredibly quick response to this issue, been having a really bad day and this was just the cherry on top :)

On continuation, I have successfully uninstalled 15 and don't want to be bugged about the upgrade. I love what I have in this superior product to other Microsoft or Real. But I only want to use 14.

Turn off the option to automatically check for updates.
