-----------------------
The JRVR renderer can deliver high performance with minimal power consumption. It will be featured in the new JRiver IdVR, based on the Intel NUC 11TNHi3 (https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/205604/intel-nuc-11-pro-kit-nuc11tnhi3.html). This NUC uses an 11th generation i3.
It is capable of playing any audio, and any video up to and including at least 4K.
Expect release before year end at a price around $700, including the JRiver Media Center license.

How can I get more information on this upcoming new product ?
How will I load my music onto it ? (collection is currently in I-tunes, most or which originated in my personal CD collection)
How is it controlled ? Is there an included 'display' so I know what is playing, etc. ?
Is it powered via a 120 V power cord ? or battery ?
What is the capacity ? (Giga bytes ?)
Thank you

We'll announce details in a month or so.
If you're only interested in music, any of the JRiver Id's would work.
https://jriver.com/Id/
Or you could run JRiver Media Center on any PC or Mac.
-
Will it support HDR10+ and/or Dolby Vision passthrough?
Thank you

Will it support HDR10+ and/or Dolby Vision passthrough?
No.
-
Thank you for the answer, appreciate it
Then what is the added value of JRVR/IdVR please?
We can already decode/passthrough normal 4K HDR with madVR
I am just trying to understand the goal here (maybe in the future you will be adding more features like HDR10+, Dolby Vision, etc.?)
-
madVR is Windows-only, the idea of JRVR is to have a cross platform alternative. The Id series, which presumably will include the IdVR, runs a custom version of Debian (Linux).
-
OK, I see, thank you
So for Windows there will be no benefits vs madVR? Maybe in the long run?
-
Any update on IdVR?
-
The Id's now run MC 28.0.81, which includes JRVR, so we're getting close. We still need to test performance on the IdNUC. We're not completely settled on which NUC we'll use.
-
Still in testing.
A couple of pieces still need work.
4k currently plays fine on these.
-
Does this new IdVR have it's own GUI so it act's like a fully fledged hardware media player comparable to what zidoo/zappiti do?
-
What's the latest on the IdVR?
-
Any update?
-
I'll try to get an update next week.
-
any update?
-
Still have 2 outstanding issues to get fixed, both pretty minor.
I'm going slow on it because there are a lot of linux JRVR improvments in progress.
-
Best guess as to when I will be able to purchase an IDVR?
-
Both issues are fixed.
Not sure when we'll distribute it yet. There is still a lot of improvements in JRVR for linux being worked on but it plays 4k fine now on a NUC11.
-
Actually I'm waiting for playback of rotated videos to be supported in JRVR and for that version of JRVR to be included in MC for Linux and for that version of MC to be ported to the IDVR. Once all those dominos fall, I should be ready to buy.
