Title: Replace my MSI R6870 Hawk
Post by: Z0001 on January 26, 2014, 03:07:39 am
I opened my HTPC to fix a different problem and found that one of the fans on the GPU was hard to turn, and not rotating on operation.

I may replace this card unless I can fix the fan. Any ideas on whether an over warranty card is worth fixing and if so how?

The alternative is a new card. Are the any recommendations? Looking for max ROHQ performance from it with some head room, 3D blu ray, quiet or passive, no gaming.

Cheers
Z

Try spraying either canned air or some teflon or silicone lube into the fan (at the central point where it turns, trying to avoid getting any lube on anything other than the fan).

Dirt in fans is the the number one PC problem these days.
