Title: DVB-C with CAM/CI support
Post by: mgoe on April 02, 2012, 02:27:22 pm
Hi,

I am in Norway using DVB-C cable from Canal Digital. I read in some posts from a few years back that MC does not support viewing encrypted channels. Is this still true?

I found Canal Digital under the list of DVB-C providers in Norway, so not supporting CAM/CI decryption would render this provider quite useless. I think about two of their channels are broadcast unencrypted, the rest are encrypted and you need a CAM module with a valid subscription card to view the channels.

If supported/possible, how would I set this up in MC? My CAM is inserted in the tuner (Terratec H7), but there are no settings for CAM or encryption in the TV settings menu. It scans most channels (although not all), but I am not able to view any of them (Timeout waiting for the writer).

Any input appreciated :)

Thanks.

It does not work yet.

For now MC supports DVB-C unencrypted channels only.  We will try getting encrypted channels to work, hopefully for DVB-C and DVB-S, and others as well.

Thanks Yaobing, this is really great news.

This is also a major lack preventing me from adopting MC.

Does that mean we can use MC to replace (a valid, paid for) UK Sky subscription. I would love to get rid of the Sky+ HD box.

+1 to this also

You still have to pay for sky but poss not multiroom, the main benefit though is. True all in one solution

I will keep reading up as currently have this functionality in mediaportal, if mc was to get this then could be converted

Yaobing is on vacation this week, so you won't get an answer right away.

Sorry, I have not directed any of my attention to this yet.

This is a killer criterion for me, and one of the main obstacles to my becoming a JRiver user/customer.
My cable provider in Switzerland encodes nearly everything, even the basic subscription channels.
I will continue to check back periodically for any progress.

Hi there,

I reply to this old post, because I would like to know if it is possible to view my Canal Digitaal subscription on MC. I have an TBS6991 card with an original Canal digitaal CAM and smart card. Well, it is actually DVB-S(II)

Any support for that now? MC finds the channels but that is pretty much it...
