Title: Can I run MC on Sparky USBridge ?
Post by: Facel on January 29, 2018, 10:34:43 am
Good afternoon!!

I have a Sparky SBC running Diet PI (DietPi is a extremely lightweight Debian Jessie OS) now available in debian Stretch version.

Do you think that it is possible to install and run MC on this (light) device ? is there any special memory need ?
The purpose is to use it as a media renderer.

Honestly only way to find out is to actually try. You'll need the ARM version of MC for Linux though.

There's a tutorial for Raspberry Pis - can probably use that as a template for your Sparky SBC.

It looks like the Sparky has similar specs to the pi 3, so it should run fine.

I installed DietPi on my rpi 3 last night without issue, just use the rpi instructions here. Interesting that MC22 comes packaged with DietPi. I like the way the developer set the OS up bare bones with easy to follow menus for installing only what you want.

I did the installation and I have MC 23 running on the desktop environnement  :) (I need to have a monitor connected to it)

but .. I cannot run in theater view (error starting OpenGL Engine - Initialzing OpenGL rendering window failed)
I also do not have any file : jriver.service in the directory  /etc/systemd/system/
and I have the following message in the standard view = Web page viewing is not yet supported on this platform

euh ...I do not know how to
=> check that OpenGL and GLX 1.4 are Installed
=> install them
but I can learn ..

one last thing ... I have LXDE desktop application ... in the Raspberry tutorial there is a special parameter for X11VNC ...when you run MC without a monitor ... but I do not know how to adapt it for LXDE

Theater view may not be practical on that device, I will let others chime in.

The "Web page viewing" message is normal.

I'm not sure if the JRiver "service" method will work out of the box. If you simply want to autostart at boot, this works in LXDE desktop, same as on the rpi: browse with File Manager to the /root folder, right click to "View Hidden". Drill down to .config/lxsession/LXDE and open up the file "autostart". Go to the bottom of the file and place "@mediacenter23" there.

You can install VNC from one of the menus in DietPi and it automatically starts at boot. You will need to login from the remote computer as root/dietpi.

@Zhillsguy  Many Thanks for your help

I will run MC without any monitor ... the theater view is only a whish only for having a nice display

I do not have any "autostart" folder in my lxpanel or lxterminal folder ...
I have an "autostart" folder in the ".config" folder .

So I simply dragged and dropped the Jiver appplication in that folder ... and it is Ok I have the JRiver running at start of LXDE.

and I declare Desktop in the dietpi-config menu for the boot .... and it is oK  .
I also use the vnc4 server already included in the dietpi environnement ... and everything is OK ...

i read about this possibility to install jriver on usbridge sparky so i tried and it mostly works ok,
biggest issue for me is that it crashes after few seconds when i use jremote (ipad and android).

it does not crash when i use tremote from my windows 10 laptop.

Sound quality is very good, i use audioquest dragonfly 1.2 as dac.
I have windows license but i would gladly upgrade to master license if this could work with jremote.

Is there something i am missing?

Thank you for your efforts everybody from jriver team.
