Title: proper audio settings

when i rum xbmc my receiver (rxv675) recognizes the switch in audio between dts or dolby or 2.0  but when i use jriver the receiver always says pro logic 2.
ive been searching here for the last few days and couldnt find the info i was looking for

im running windows 7 on my laptop thru x-fi pro 5.1 usb sound blaster. Optical into my receiver

This has to do with Bit streaming or letting the PC and J River do the decoding. If you bit stream to your receiver the receiver will recognize the format and switch automatically, it sounds like your xbmc uses bit streaming.

When using J River to do the decoding it is sent as PCM.

so i guess the question is. do i let jriver do the decoding. or my nice new receiver. probably asked a million times.

I, and many others, were in the same boat as you at one point. I, and many others, let J River do it.

You can try both. Set up room correction in the DSP and switch between bit streaming and Waspi. You could also set up 2 different Zones each with their own settings to compare.
