Title: NEW: Support for FLAC files with 32-bit audio.
Post by: bucky63 on March 27, 2024, 03:40:04 pm
Hi everyone,

Can someone explain what the benefit of using FLAC files with 32-bit audio this new feature has?  I have seen some references to using 32-bit files when ripping vinyl rips.  Will it benefit file conversions of DSD to FLAC?  I converted my DSD files to FLAC for convenience.  Should I reconvert my DSD files to 32-bit FLAC files using FLAC 1.4.0 or higher?

I wouldn't recommend using 32-bit audio, there is no benefit over 24-bit for storage. Only as an intermediate format for audio processing would high bitdepths be useful to ensure precision is not lost in the processing chain.
But we support playing such files now if anyone happens to obtain some, regardless of how we feel about them. :D

Thanks Hendrik!

That is what I thought also but it never hurts to ask.
