Title: POLL: JRiver Person of the Year, 2012
Post by: JimH on December 18, 2012, 11:57:51 am
We want to recognize the people who have given so much to this group.  These were the nominees (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=76493.0):

Alex B, glynor, jmone, marko, mojave, MrC, Mr ChriZ, rick.ca. (alphabetical order)

Please vote for any two.  We'll send the winner a box of Omaha Steaks (or the equivalent).

And a special thanks to all of the other people who have contributed so much.  We know who you are and we're grateful.

I vote for whoever promises to cut taxes for everyone and reduce crime. :)

It is very exciting!!! but oddly I can find no coverage of this election on the main TV Channels.  I wonder if it is on Cable Only?

I'm also glad that the poll is for "Which person has given their advice most generously this year?" NOT "Which person has given good advice ....?" as I think it really boosts my chances!  ;D

EDIT: In retrospect I don't like my chances.... I could not even vote for myself  :'(  Probably a good thing as Australian Customs would no doubt confiscate Omaha Steaks anyway (whatever they are).

Thanks for the cupcakes, jmone, but I already voted.  :P

I would nominate fitbrit for the helping the most at AVSForum. These days I don't go into the HTPC subforum there as often as I used to. I didn't even join Interact for several years after purchasing JRiver just because I spent all my time in the HTPC subforum.

Only 46 votes from 30,000 registered users..... must be a US style election (bring in compulsory voting I say)!  I figure I'm still in the running for the Steaks if I can only hack the JRiver mail list somehow.... off to google "hacking" --> Vote Early / Vote Often

As this election is held in the US and In accordance with the the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act (BCRA, also known as "McCain-Feingold"), "I approve this message"

Just wondering if anyone has a concession speech prepared.

Or do we need to do a recount?

I vote we split Glynor in two, and give steaks to each half.

Good thinking.  He seems a little like a shmoo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shmoo), after all.

Just waiting to conclude the negotiations prior to my concession and subsequent endorsement with either Glynor or MrC....

Good thinking.  He seems a little like a shmoo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shmoo), after all.

I had to look up what a schmoo was!  I'm sure Glynor will be thrilled he is likened to:
Quote
* They reproduce asexually and are incredibly prolific, multiplying exponentially faster than rabbits. They require no sustenance other than air.
* Shmoos are delicious to eat, and are eager to be eaten. If a human looks at one hungrily, it will happily immolate itself — either by jumping into a frying pan, after which they taste like chicken, or into a broiling pan, after which they taste like steak. When roasted they taste like pork, and when baked they taste like catfish. (Raw, they taste like oysters on the half-shell.)
* They also produce eggs (neatly packaged), milk (bottled, grade-A), and butter—no churning required. Their pelts make perfect bootleather or house timber, depending on how thick you slice it.
* They have no bones, so there's absolutely no waste. Their eyes make the best suspender buttons, and their whiskers make perfect toothpicks. In short, they are simply the perfect ideal of a subsistence agricultural herd animal.
* Naturally gentle, they require minimal care, and are ideal playmates for young children. The frolicking of shmoon is so entertaining (such as their staged "shmoosical comedies") that people no longer feel the need to watch television or go to the movies.
* Some of the more tasty varieties of shmoo are more difficult to catch. Usually shmoo hunters, now a sport in some parts of the country, utilize a paper bag, flashlight and stick to capture their shmoos. At night the light stuns them, then they can be whacked in the head with the stick and put in the bag for frying up later on
It seems that the shmoo is eaten and does not do the eating - so no steak for the shmoo

I've tried for the better part of a day to come up with a clever comeback to all this schmoo-talk.

I've got nothing.
Darn.

Probably would require a glass of wine (or four), but I must drive (I'm currently mid-way through our 12+ hour voyage from home to the house of the parental units).  Of course, I'm not driving now.  It'll be my turn soon enough.

(I'm currently mid-way through our 12+ hour voyage from home to the house of the parental units).

It ended up being just shy of 14 hours.  With a dog, a cat, and an 18-month-old (who had taken all she could take about 3 hours ago).

My wife is getting the wine.

OK.  The Judging Committee has declared this a virtual tie and we are awarding a box of steaks to glynor, aka Ed, and a box to MrC, aka Mike.  They have served beyond the call of duty.  Thanks very much to both of them, and to all of the many runnersup.

I'm leaning toward ribeyes.

Ed?  Mike?  What's your pleasure?

I've been practicing with formulas:

[MrC]=if(isequal(MrC,Glynor,1),Omaha Steaks,if(isequal(Jim,Generous,1),Omaha Steaks,pat on back)

As for me, I have reservations in Omaha for Steak tomorrow night at Mahogany Prime (http://mahogany.ehsrg.com/). My wife and I are celebrating our 19th anniversary.
Title: Re: POLL: JRiver Person of the Year, 2012
Post by: MrC on December 27, 2012, 06:28:00 pm
I'd totally forgotten about this, but what a fun surprise!

As Glynor said, it is really unnecessary.  I go with the expression:

If(Compare(Glynor, >, MrC), Omaha Steaks, dead rats)

If it is mandatory that steaks will be shipped, than what can beat a good ribeye?  Answer: A box of ribeyes!

(note: our home address has changed)

Happy New Year.

Hmm, does four glasses of wine count as "mass quantities" ?  ?

You'll have to wait until I actually get to try one of them.  Plans got all messed up this weekend, and then there's this...

And that's after nearly a week of 40-50 degree highs!  But that's all over now...

I finally had one of my own last weekend.  There are pictures, but I haven't done the thing to the thing with the thing yet.

However, I will report this...

I don't know that I can say it was the best steak I've ever had, but it was easily in the top five or so.  Thanks everyone!
