Here are the changes in this build:
Added more sample rates for display in Playing Now.
Added delete from a playlist swipe option, requires MediaCenter 25 or later.
Uses the articles from MediaCenter for sorting IF they are set in MC AND article sorting is turned on in JRemote.
Removed the exception for article sorting when lists were less than 40 items.
Added Radio JRiver playback (only in the Player zone) in the streaming section.
-
Thanks for adding Radio JRiver playback in Streaming. I would also love to have Radio JRiver playback streaming in the "This device" zone. Can that be done and if so, will it be added soon? Please...
Thanks.
-
I'm unhappy to see this update requires MC 25.
It's all fine and good to improve your tech, but forking the app leaves paying users behind.
So how are we to reinstall the previous version later when, say, changing devices?

It's sometimes the price of progress. Please take a look at this:

I am struck by the number of IOS players that allow you to play FLAC files without using the iphone music player and itunes and indeed JRemote does this just fine with a very familiar MC layout. However what is missing for me is the ability to download tracks/ playlists etc for use offline. I have got the light version of musicstreamer which seems to connect easily to where the music files are stored (in my case a NAS drive) as long as you are on the same network; and I will happily pay the $4 or so to get the full version so I can download too.
Are there any plans to implement download on JRemote before I push the button?
-
Bump?

The update does NOT require MC25!
If you look at the feature update list you will see that only deleting an item from a playlist requires MC25. That's because the function in MC was just created!
-
Bump?
We've talked about it, but it's not in the pipeline yet.
-
Thanks Bob - understood. I think I will subscribe to MO 4media for the time being, which does have the download capability and otherwise (I hope) mirrors what JRemote can do.

This is my number one feature request as well, and what keeps me looking for other solutions all the time. I would love to just use JRemote, as it works so well streaming. nPlayer lets me access the dlna server Media Center sets up, and also downloads tracks to the phone for offline play, but it's a pretty crude file browser that often messes up track order and doesn't use art well (sounds great though). I'd even pay more for a download option on JRemote.

QUOTE: Uses the articles from MediaCenter for sorting IF they are set in MC AND article sorting is turned on in JRemote.
In MC and Remote 3.29 the album La Divina is (like it should be) sorted under D, since I added "la" to the article list.
But when I hit the letter "L" in the alphabetic index on the right side of the screen in JRemote it jumps to La Divina. That's not what I expected.
Did I do something wrong?

Afternoon - any chance of JRemote being updated for Android aswell ?
Thank you

Yes. Not too long.

Hi,
There is incorrect track length (too short) when DST encoded .dff files are converted to MP3 and streamed to JRemote or any other app.
.dff without DST, .dsf and SACD file types works correctly.
MC version: 25.0.95 (8/23/2019) for Mac
-
WAV might work. That could be an encoder problem.
-
JRemote no have any options about transcode format, only MP3.
On the Media Center DST encoded .dff files works perfectly....

On an incorrectly reported length .dff file, can you tell us the size of that track (in bytes) and expected duration?
Does this occur on all .dff files?
Are you using the iOS version of JRemote?
-
Same thing with every DST encoded .dff files other DSD filetypes works well.
Here is some pictures about incorrect (2.30) and correct (6.04) track length.
Yes I use latest iOS version.
Thanks for that infomation!
Do you have transcoding turned on in JRemote?
I assume the duration is correct in MC?

Yes transcode is on and duration is correct in MC.
Thanks, if it's this particular format of .dff is there a way you can get us a copy of a track that does this so I can reproduce that here?

DST encoded files from SACD ISO also works correct and you can extract DST encoded .dff files from any Multichannel SACD.

Though we do have some multichannel SACD's, it seems that extracting requires hardware which we don't have.
I have a single 9 minute 6ch dff test track that's 1GB in size.
It works fine.
So we would need to get a track that shows the problem you describe.

Will future jremote be adapted to iphone X screen? the two big black bands are really annoying.

I am having issues syncing this remote. I've used the old version for a couple of years with seamless connectivity.
I have JR 25 on my pc running Windows 10. My phone is an iphone 8. The old app stopped working a couple weeks ago for some reason, so I did the old standby fix by deleting and re-install. To my disappointment, it was no longer free. I paid the fee begrudgingly and now cannot get it to sync.
Please let me know how this can be corrected.

JRemote was never free on iOS AFAIK.
What are you trying to sync?

I second this!

This app need an update for IOs/iPaddos 13.1.1 etc
Search screen is not seen as you type in search paramters

Jaremote 3.29 on my old iPad (ios 10) is showing no progress on the time elapsed indicator.
On my recent iPad mini (ios 13) it is the same.
On Panel on the older iPad it increases in 5second increments, but does register progress!
Is this a new bug, I have not noticed it heretofore.
Thanks

I am a fan of (JRiver &) JRemote, but are running into 2 issues:
1. Regardless of which track of an album I choose, JRemote (version 3.29; iOS 13.1.2) plays the first track of a multi-track Flac-file (+cue-file).
More severely, but not unexpectedly, a similar error occurs when shuffle-playing a genre or other groups of albums. When playing an album, track two is played after one, et cetera. JRiver (25) does not have any issues (in this regard).
I switched my large Alac-library to multi-track Flac, because of the (still) unresolved issue that JRemote cannot find / play many tracks/albums, which JRiver finds and plays. JRemote now finds every album. So switching to individual tracks is NOT an option.
2. JRemote does not play any video. The screen remains black.

The streaming video issue hasn't been resolved yet.

Hi, re JRiver on Mac, following upgrade to OS Catalina, thus replacing iTunes with Music, one can no longer control/select the various airplay zones or control music playback on the Mac from the Remote app. It would be great if the JRiver remote app could be set up to also select and volume control single or multiple Apple airplay zones.

Hello. I'm having the same problem: JRemote does not display the search box and any of the characters typed. My iPadOS is 13.1.3, JRemote is the latest version. If this is a bug, please fix it.

On JRemote iOS you can playback to the "This Device" zone then choose an airplay device from your iPhone/iPad.
I do this from time to time.
The only other way this could be handled is if MC Mac could use airplay audio devices directly in which case you could create zones with them. That's not possible at this time and I'm not sure what it would take to implement.

I'm sad that the folks at JRiver have pretty much abandoned JRemote. It's been this way for years. It still doesn't show correctly on Iphone X and up, and the search function doesn't work with the the latest IOS. I get it, what's to gain for JRiver fixing these? They don't get money for streams or any revenue outside of the initial purchase of the app. They probably feel left behind with the whole streaming generation - and most importantly making much revenue off of JRemote.
Guys, we get it! All said, it's still the best app in the universe. It's just maddening they can't make a simple fix now and then. But it's clearly not a priority. So we're still stuck with a pretty great app though. And if they need help to test or whatever, I'm here.
-
And I will upgrade every new version of JRiver if they'd just fix the darn JRemote app!

You're just plain wrong.
-
Really? I admit it still works great but things like the search function not working and the UI on the iphone X tell me otherwise. Hey, I love this app but clearly it was built to work great and still does. But I see little maintenance. Is what it is and like I said, what's in it for JRiver? Seems their work is done on JRemote for the most part.
-
Please don't say that nothing is being done. You're wrong.
I'm speaking for JRiver.
Just report any problems in a thread that describes them.

For starters, how about an update on the search fix and UI fix for Iphone X and above.

The problem (no search window/no text) recurs every time I try search in JRemote since the IOS 13 update. Never saw this behavior in IOS 12.
-
Tried the search in the simulator, haven't been able to duplicate that problem yet.
It's the global search on the left side, not the scoped search on the lower right, that's the problem.
Have you tried reproducing on an actual iOS device? It's 100% reproducable for me. Makes the global search useless.

I started a new thread on this one.

Release information says "Uses the articles from MediaCenter for sorting IF they are set in MC AND article sorting is turned on in JRemote."
Where do I find article sorting in JRemote?
I see "Ignore articles in sort (a, an, the)". Do you mean that this has to turned off?

No, the "Ignore articles in sort (a, an, the)" has to be on.
It will use the articles in MC (25 or greater) if they are enabled in MC also. If it ISN'T enabled in MC but that option in JRemote is still enabled, those 3 only will be sorted.

How can we get back all 4 Radio Paradise channels. I lost 2 of them with this upgrade (Rock, Electric) MC25 still has them and can play all 4.

I've got that fixed in Beta but I was hoping to get the changes for search fixed first. I might not wait, that's taking longer that I want...
-
Thanks! Remoting into the MC25 for the two missing channels is a pain. I wish I knew this before I updated as I was happy with the prior version. Good work.
-
I am still confused about the sorting options for articles (same in 3.29 and 3.30). The first image shows how the articles are set in MC25. As you can see I added "le; la;". In MC25 this works exactly like I expected (choosing an album starting with "L" brings me to "The Lady in the Van".
The second image shows that in JRemote the only possibility is to ignore the articles "a; an; the" in sorting and that this option is turned on.
The third image shows that the album "La Divina" is rightfully sorted under "D", but.... if I hit the "L" in the alphabet-bar at the right side of the screen in the app, the screen will point me to "La Divina" and not to "The Lady in the Van".
Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug?
-
I see that 3.30 has been released. So awesome to see JRiver get more love. It is a wonderful app (as is JRiver). Thanks!
-
regarding JRemote 3.30: PDF(assets) view in an own window, and not to expand to full screen. Sorry if this is a feature, than it's not a good feature. Now it's not longer possible to read a PDF booklet without zooming. For which reason have you done that? tested on an iPad Air2, latest iPadOS, it makes no sense for me to read a booklet on an iPhone.
Edit: next problem, some pdfs crash JRemote during page scrolling.

There is still an issue with choosing the letter in albums with the article sorting turned on. The sorting is correct but the shortcut jump is not.

We didn't (intentionally at any rate) change that function.
What is the lastest iOS for the Air2? Is is on 13?
Note that the UI is NOT the same between the iPhone and iPad views.

Thanks for your replies. This clarifies my issue.
The iPadOS is version 13.2.3
The iOS is also version 13.2.3
I know there are some difference, no idea what however.

I can see issues in the simulator but if you have one of the specific issue you are seeing it's always useful to attach a screenshot.

here it is, pdf was shown in fullscreen in 3.29 and now in 3.30 in an own window. Sure, this one is possible to read, but for a lot of pdfs it's easier to have the full screen.

Is there a way to add a navigation panel to JRemote (or Web Gizmo)? I'd like to up up/down/left/right/select buttons to be able to navigate Blu ray menus. If there is a customization thread, would appreciate a pointer to it.
Thanks.
-
JRemote 3.30. I get a fairly regular error. The current volume level displays in large format (covers most of the screen after I change the volume) and can’t be eliminated short of a JRemote reload. The volume level screen used to just time out.
-

Been looking for this since Remote came out - I check back in here every now and then...here's hoping its under secret development.
As others have said I'd upgrade to MC26 (from 23) if thats what got it done.
-
I use JRemote more and more as a remote control for JRiver.
My main issue is the audio/video engine and streaming when JRemote is used as player. I want lossless streaming for audio and video, i.e. no transcoding. Why does JRemote does not support this? Why does it only support mandatory lossy transcoding for music and unknown and untransparent transcoding for video?
-
It's likely a limitation of iOS' AvPlayer, whereas with JRemote2 and ExoPlayer2, getting native playback with formats like FLAC are possible (even gapless playback is possible). Don't think AvPlayer even supports FLAC, unless I'm mistaken, it's been awhile since I researched any into that situation.
Bottom line, iOS is limited when comparing to Android and AvPlayer can't hold a candle to ExoPlayer2. That's why JRemote2 was developed for Android and not happening for iOS at all.
-

Thanks, but there are enough ios players which support 24bit 192Khz, including Roon.
-
Don't think bit-depths/sample rates are the issue there, it's AvPlayer itself and what formats it natively supports (and doesn't support). It's probably likely native playback without transcoding is possible, but the amount of formats it could support through AvPlayer is likely the issue. Like if native FLAC playback isn't supported, that's potentially a major deal breaking issue for a lot of users. If that's indeed the case, there's a chance JRiver can't do anything about it either on iOS platforms due to platform limitations and restrictions.
-
"...Bottom line, iOS is limited when comparing to Android and AvPlayer can't hold a candle to ExoPlayer2. That's why JRemote2 was developed for Android and not happening for iOS at all.
Does that mean further development on JRemote for IOS is dead, and that there will be no fixes forthcoming?
-
Those issues... well, maybe except the video crashing thing, aren't related to AvPlayer.
-
Those issues... well, maybe except the video crashing thing, aren't related to AvPlayer.
The 'video crashing thing' is a major bug with JRemote for me. After this much time, and after this many requests for information by me and others on this and other threads, I can't help but draw my own conclusion that not answering the question is answering the question.
-
They (JRiver) has answered that particular question some time ago, I remember Hendrik explaining the cause of the video crashing issue. So they know what causes it, but it's something that's not easy to fix at all. Jim has recently said that development on JRemote for iOS hasn't ceased or ended. It's just slow and likely lower on the their to-do list at the moment.
As for the other issues like search issues and whatnot, Bob already said too he hasn't been able to reproduce them in the simulator yet. See, being able to reproduce it on the actual device is one thing, but the developers need to be able to reproduce it and debug it at the same time, which is what the simulator is for.
Honestly, from my personal perspective (remember, I don't work for JRiver and I'm just another user like you guys) if I was going to be in the market for a new phone soon and being able to use JRemote was extremely important to me, I would highly consider getting an Android phone instead of an iPhone, because no matter how you look at it JRemote2 for Android will always very likely be superior to JRemote for iOS, mainly due to the limitations and restrictions iOS (and AvPlayer) has versus the Android OS (and ExoPlayer).
-
Pretty good summary, A.D.

I've said before that we have continued to work on the iOS version of JRemote. I can't tell you more than that.
Your multiple posts on the subject won't change the outcome.

Fair enough but not going to happen in my case (I assume there's others as well). As much as I love JRiver, I'd find something else. I view JRemote on iOS integral to the experience.

With transcoding disabled in JRemote (iOS) settings, it will play Flac and Alac natively up to the limits of the DAC in the iDevice.

Does that mean that with an external DAC attached to the phone (in my case Audioquest Dragonfly or Chord Mojo) it will play 24 bit 192 KHz like the Qobuz player, etc.
-
How is the DAC connected? USB? If so, then it will probably work.

Yes. Lightning to USB into DAC.

As far as the video is concerned. Settings in the JRemote for video list a maximum. Is maximum the same as No Transcoding and thus same quality as original video file.

For video, it has to be transcoded since the video player will only play a live stream in one particular format.

Actually, that's not true. The m4v and mp4 files will attempt to play in their native format. Others will be transcoded.

JRemote 3.31 is in BETA now, see the top post of this forum.
