Title: JR character sort is different to Excel
Post by: FenceFurniture on November 14, 2019, 04:31:25 pm
If I have cells with the following characters, in Excel they sort (ascending) as follows:

©   (which is Alt 184)
♪   (which is Alt 269)
♫   (which is Alt 270)
10cc
2Cellos
z

However, in JRiver they sort like this:

2Cellos
10cc
©   (which is Alt 184)
♪   (which is Alt 269)
♫   (which is Alt 270)
z

It is particularly perplexing how JR thinks a 2 is less than 1, and I would much prefer it to sort in the same way as Excel does (for all characters).

Posting this on the very slight off chance that the sorting can be modified?

Number sorting is performed "smart", as in it doesn't sort 2 is less then 1, but it sorts 2 is less then 10, which in most cases makes much more sense then strict alphabetic sorting on numbers (so that eg. 1, 2, 3, 10, 11, 12 comes out just like that, and not as 1, 10, 11, 12, 2, 3)

We're not aiming to match any other softwares sorting directly, but have it make sense on its own.
