Title: Library name change
Post by: maid on May 13, 2018, 11:34:24 pm
How can i change the name of my library from library 20 to just library?
I tried this once but jriver created a new library 20 and I could not load it

You should just be able to click on the library name under Playing Now, and there will be a Rename button to the right. That should work for all local, server, and Client types of libraries.

I know you have multiple libraries so you may want to use a better name than just "Library". For example I use names like "PCName Local Library", "ServerName Server Library" for a Client of the Server, etc, where PCName and ServerName are the names of the respective computers.

If MC recreates the "Library 20" library, you aren't just renaming the library, but are perhaps trying to move or rename the library files outside MC, or something like that.

Not sure this is correct as my library inside mc has been renamed to my name but the actual file on the hard drive is called library 20

The library files aren't named to follow the Library Name. They are always the same and are things like "field (access rating).jmd", "browser (theater view).jmd", "playlistx.jmd" and so on.

The default location for a local library, which is always the Default Library in MC, is "C:\Users\[UserID]\AppData\Roaming\J River\Media Center 24\Library". Is that where you are looking?

Basically, I don't know what file you are talking about on disk. What is the full path and filename?

So it is just the directory in which the library resides that is still named "library 20".

So just back up that library, create a new library in "S:\Library", restore the backup you just made into the new library, and then delete (from within MC) the old library. Then use the new library in "S:\Library" from then on.

Of course, if you have any special customisations, scripts, or similar that point to "S:\Library", then will also need to update those. But those would all be outside MC.

BTW, if in the past you just renamed "S:\Library 20" to "S:\Library", then that would explain why MC recreated "library 20", as that is where its library was pointing to. It would have created that new library as an empty library until you restored a backup into it, or reversed the change you made.
