I bought one of the Philips players, the NP2500. It came today. I brought it home and hooked it up. It works. Here's the re-count:
Philips side
Unpacking the box 5 minutes
Removing stickers, tape 5
Hooking up to amplifier 5
Typing in WEP key 10 minutes
JRiver side
Started UPnP server in MC, with conversion to MP3 set (all)
didn't work
Set MC's server to Streamium
didn't work
Set MC's server to DLNA
worked
Approximate time 10 minutes
Everything seems to be working OK so far. I'll report more later.

Strange, I just purchased NP2500, but can't get it to work with MC13.
It works with anything else I have at home able to stream: Windows Media Sharing, Iomega NAS, Seagate HDD plugged in to Lynksis router...
I have in MC13 enabled UPNP servers with DLNA switched on. In this configuration both my Pioneer TV and reciever can access MC13 libarary and read music, Pictures, or video.
In Pihips NP2500 in see my PC with MC13 UPNP server, but when I click on it, I get following message: "This is an empty list"!
What other UPNP server setting you have when you got NP2500 to connect to MC13?
Any other idea about this problem?

Try this:
... conversion to MP3 set (all)
-
I tried that. Doesn't help. As I worte with my current UPNP setting Pioneer TV and REceiver can access all media on MC13, but PHILIPS can get even list of content.
There should be some other problem, that PHILIPS NP2500 can't get acces to MC13 at all.
Some brutal incompatibility or limited access.

A firewall?

You need to configure Media Center's UPnP server this way for the Philips NP2500 (and possibly other newer Philips devices):
Receiver: Advanced
Uncheck all boxes
Check DLNA box
[so there will be only one box checked, the DLNA box]
If you use APE files, you may need to pick "Always convert audio".
-
In Media Center 13.0.148 and later, this will be a little easier. Just select DLNA for the receiver.
From the history:
NEW: Added preset "DLNA (Philips NP2500, etc.)" to UPnP server to make serving to DLNA devices easier.

Thank you!!!
Unchecking all boxed, and checking DLNA only did the trick!
I even checked now allow visual content and the NP2500 shows the cover arts!
Thanks you MC13 team!!!

You're a step ahead of me then. I can't get artwork to work.
I tried MP3's with embedded JPEGs and APE files that get converted to MP3 on-the-fly. I also enabled the "Shrink Large Images" setting to no avail.
What format are you using, and how do you store your cover art? Any other tips?
Thanks.
