I have no idea but I have the problem that all my thumbs have disappeared after i switched from my Default Library (ape files) to a library where i store the mp3's for syncing to iPod etc..
Once I switched back to default library, all thumbs have disappeared from all files.
How cna that be? Any clue??

I have tried creating them by Options/Create Thumbs. Took well over an hour but no thumb for my 31000 files has been recreated.
I really need some help. No idea how this could happen

If your cover art is stored in the files, then highlight all of your songs, right click and hit update library from tags. Then attempt to rebuild.
-
Ya, but that would screww up some library fields that are not stored in tags.
Further invesitagtion: when I go to "Thumbnail" view rather than "Album Thumbnail", I notice its always the first file of each album thats missing the thumb !!! And that obviously seems to determine that no thumb is displaye din Album THumbnail view....
Really weird. Must be a bug

NB: Also moved back to build 97 - but no change to the problem

Only explanation i might have is that this afternoon I updated my iPod Synch with version 11.1 for the first time to get the thumbs on my iPod.
After that, and switching back to the library containg my ape's - all the first thumbs in an album are missing - and I can get them reinstalled óther than copy-past from other files of the same album.
But with almost 3200 Albums that would take me forever
Very odd.... Any help would be very much appreciated

Make sure your cover art directory is set correctly in MC options. Then select a few files with missing cover art and try right click/cover art/quick find.
-

If it is not stored in a tag, then it won't update it in the library(as there is nothing to update form the tag) and since MC always updates the tags when a change is made to the library you should be fine in this regard.
-
I have tried "Update Library from Tags" and also "Quick Find in File"
None of this delivers any results. However, I know the image is stored inside the file because it shows up in "playing now" when playing the file.
This is most weird. I still fear this is related to the iPod Synch in some way or another as described above.
Any other clues how this could be fixed?

i've had similar problems - only fix i found was to manually delete the thumbnails directory in Docs and setts/application data/jriver......and then rebuild.
-
Me too, identical issue. No thumbs, rebuilding did nothing, cover art appeared in Playing Now. Solved it like this:
1) Tools/Options/Tree & View/Thumbnails - Erase thumbnails
2) Tools/Options/File Locations - set the cover art location correctly (ie. folder.jpg)
3) In the library - select all files, right click, Image/Remove Cover Art. Say *no* if asked to remove the files from hard disk.
4) In the library - select all files, right click, Image/Quick Find in File/Cover Art directory
5) Tools/Options/Tree & View/Thumbnails - Rebuild missing
The third step was key - clearly something got out of sync.

Feels better not being alone - but still would love a solution.

After quite a bit of fiddling around mostöy along the lines of gpvill's tips i got my audio thumbs back.
Video still a different matter but working on that now.....
Thanks gpvill
Nonetheless, there is something buggy in these latest few builds on thumbs

I had a similar experience.
Sometimes only the first file, but sometimes the first two files is missing coverart. And only in certain parts of the library, some artists have one album missing coverart in the first album, and some have all allbums missing coverart in first file of every album.
And some albums are not missing any coverart.
I have the coverart in tags, and not in folder. The coverart is still in the tags but MC is not able to see it on those files. And that is the weirdest thing. When i try to update from tags, nothing happens, even if the image is in the files tag.
If i rolled back my library to an older one everything is ok, so i was thinking this version of my library is somehow slightly corrupted.
But then i erased thumbnails and everything was back to normal. All coverart showed up again.
I think this is happening when you uppgrade from 11.0.*** And i guess the innstaller should erase thumbnails when upgrading ?

Next build:
Changed: When Media Center fails to load a cached thumbnail, it resets itself so it rebuilds the thumbnail.
Fixed: Restoring a library wouldn't reset the thumbnails from the previous library, causing some thumbs to not appear.

Can't wait :)

What do you mean by resetting? I hope it is not a synonym for complete rebuilding.
I have the same library (it points to the same shared folders) on my three MC PCs and I restore libraries quite often. I do that on two PCs every time something has changed in the library and besides that always if MC has crashed for some reason (I have bad experiences about partly written .jmd files).
-
Apparently it is a synonym.
Oh well... I can always make a batch file that copies the library and thumbnail files behind MC's back.
Anyway, I am glad if this resolves some problems the others have experienced.
-
I was just planning to suggest a batch file Alex.
We couldn't figure out a fast, 100% way to "validate" the thumbnails after a restore, so we decided a delete would be best.
Hopefully the batch file isn't too much hassle.
