Title: JRemote status?
Post by: Grga-Ri on January 10, 2018, 02:02:56 am
Hi,

I would like to know what is the future of JRemote?, I am asking this, because from your newsletters I see that you are braging with the development of PANEL, as you state the "ideal way to control playback" and other reason is that JRemote have not been updated for a very long time.

I have tried the PANEL, and it is far from ideal way to control JRiver, the ideal way is JRemote, and still best remote in market, I've also tried Roon.

I don't understand why you are wasting your resources on PANEL, when you should be polishing JRemote, please note that competition is catching up quickly.

Rgds,
Damir

Likely the same answer applies now as it did in August 2016.

It's worth pointing out that Panel isn't meant to replace Gizmo or JRemote, it's meant to replace WebGizmo. But Panel is in ongoing development, so it'll improve over time.

Thanks for the answer...

But I would like to express my personal outcry, because I cannot comprehend the attitude.
In today's world player by itself is nothing, we are using tablets as remotes, and once you try the combo there is no going back, JRemote
is by far the best one out-there.

So you abandoning the development of it, for me is a great mystery, and if I switch to Roon it will be your fault, and not that I like the Roon more!

Well, think about it. JRemote in its current form still works pretty good, with very few issues (I've yet to actually encounter any).

I don't believe development of JRemote has been 'abandoned'. If anything it's in a state where it'll be updated if and when it's actually needed. Example being an iOS update or an Android update causing crashes and other issues, which requires an update to JRemote to address it. This happened a couple years back and JRemote was updated then. As Jim said in his 2016 reply, if you're encountering a problem, post the steps to reproduce the issue and JRiver will try to reproduce it and MAY fix it. I assume it'd depend on the type of issue, how bad it is, etc.

At the end of the day JRemote still works rather well on both iOS and Android - it serves its purpose perfectly. I use it all the time on Android without any issues. So if it ain't broke, why fix it?

Thank you.

I'm sorry, but we can't do everything.
