Just FYI for future readers:
What one would suspect to be true is true. Since Linux Lite 3.0 is based on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, and most of the changes are cosmetic (Windows-esque names instead of Linux ones like "fsbgdd"), then it turns out that JRiver MC21 installs just fine on Linux Lite 3.0 using the stickied procedure for Ubuntu and Mint.

This doesn't surprise me, actually. Ubuntu-derived forks like Mint, Elementary OS and others like Linux Lite should work fine using the Ubuntu instructions, assuming of course there's no major deviations in the OS which could bring problems. :)
