Title: Integer mode with Metric Halo ULN-8 (ronfint)
Post by: ronfint on October 24, 2013, 04:21:44 pm
I am not able to engage integer playback with OS 10.9 and my Metric Halo ULN-8. I was told by Metric Halo quite a while ago that their firmware supported integer playback. Can anything be done about this from my end?

Please capture a log using Help > Logging showing playback start.  Then mail it to logs at jriver dot com.

Thanks.

Thanks very much, Matt. I just did that.

Thanks for the log.

Please replace the output plugin in your Media Center app package plugins folder with this one:
http://files.jriver.com/temp/libout_Main.dylib

Then run MC and grab another log.  It will have more details about what formats your hardware exposes and why we're not picking any of them.

Thanks again.

(ps. I might split this discussion to a new thread, so look on the MC19 Mac board if you don't see the posts here)

Thanks Matt, I just did that.

Thanks.

It might take a little trial-and-error for us to get that one going.  It doesn't report a non-mixable format, which seemed like it would be required.  It's also big-endian, which we don't support yet (but should be easy to add).

Just to be sure, does integer mode work with other players?

I haven't tried any other players in quite a while except for Audirvana which has a direct mode which works and shows integer mode.

Addendum -- I rechecked this and Audirvana no longer is in integer mode. This is a new development since the installation of Mavericks.

I don't know how to get a device like the Metric Halo that doesn't expose a native, unmixable format to enter integer mode.

I've written to Metric Halo, and will follow up if I learn more.

From Metric Halo:
Quote
We definitely supported integer mode back in the 10.6.x timeframe. In 10.7 Apple disabled support for it. We'll be happy to re-enable support in the driver as soon as we are confident that the apps that will use it will use it correctly with our device and that the user experience will be good.

We're working together to get it going with JRiver.
