Title: Progress on Theater View for Mac and Linux?
Post by: blgentry on August 15, 2016, 07:52:54 pm
I was wondering if there's anything you can share with us about this project.  I'm very much looking forward to seeing it.  :)

We'll know more next week.  Hendrik is visiting JRiver from Germany.  Also Yaobing from Chicago.  I suspect we will have a plan by the end of the week.

We will still need to get our Media Center Remote code working.

Cool. Sounds like more Brats barbie (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regional_variations_of_barbecue#Australia) pics will be on the way as well.

I will fire up my first dedicated Ubuntu server when we have theater view for Linux.
Thanks to the development team.

 :o :o :o

I cannot tell you how great this is! Theater View, Remote control and functioning television are all that keeps Windows on my HTPC. The day I can go Linux is the day I will.

It'll be a long and painful process to get it working right, I'll make sure you all suffer with us!

Linux software is about suffering right?  At least here I can be confident a dev will talk to me instead of my bug reports going unacknowledged for 3 years before being closed "WONTFIX" with no explanation ;D

Where can we enter that WONTFIX?  That sounds pretty darn useful!

I'm just always stuck fixing every problem we can reproduce :P

It comes standard with most bug trackers, so just set one up and you can be WONTFIXing in no time  :P

Can you give us a little teaser of what's going on?

I'm also curious if the Mac and Linux Theater View will integrate with the existing video player that MC uses on these platforms, or if it replaces or enhances it in any way.  I'm guessing it just hooks in to the existing video player, but I have to ask.  :)

Thanks for any information.

Yeah, some of us couldn't wait to start tormenting our families, and have already ported a few family-facing machines to Linux.  Or maybe just me...

The one nice surprise is that Linux remote control support (for media center remotes) more or less "just works," but it "just works" by translating the IR codes directly into keypresses.  The good news is that you can easily map/remap the buttons in a pure text config file.  The bad news is that the function the Green button performed on windows isn't a single keypress on Linux.  The really bad news is that the only IR-remote-controllable 10-foot interface I have available at the moment on Linux is Kodi  :'(  I'm still using JRiver in standard view with a wireless keyboard, but the family prefers something that's IR-controllable, no matter how goofy it is.

I know I have no one to blame but myself, but... please send help  ;D

I think my family would move out. Come to think of it... ;D

I left the main Living Room system on windows for the time being to avoid an all out strike; I just migrated the kitchen and one of the bedroom systems so it's only an occasional issue.  I'm leaning in, but I'm not suicidal.

My living room system is the only windows computer in the house these days... Oh, to be rid of it (including TV)...
