Title: Run MC on MAC 10.6.8
Post by: Bbaker on January 13, 2024, 11:19:36 am
Running OS 10.6.8
Have an old trial version of MC 22 installed on this machine.
The 30 days have elapsed, and now need license.
Read the thread about no MC 22 licensing available.
Will the Master license work for me?

My ultimate goal is to run MC on this old Mac without updating the OS.
MC version really doesn’t matter.

Any solutions for me?

Barry

As with Individual Platform Licences a Master Licence will only work with the Version of MC it is purchased for - but there is one thing you should be be aware of and that you will have to update the OS to at least OS 10.11 as that is the lowest OS version that the newer versions of MC will run on.

Thanks for the quick reply.

As suspected, no MC solution for 10.6.8

How about running 10.11 and that compatible MC version?

The real “rub” is no internet connection.

I can move the iMac to an internet connection for the installs.

Will the OS need an Apple account? Does it need to see the internet daily?

There’s a local joint, MacHQ, that does used Apple computers.

Maybe I need them on this?

And I wouldn't be surprised if the system requirement increases with MC32, e.g. minimum becoming 10.12 or 10.13 or anything newer.

MC31 runs on 10.11, but keep in mind MC needs an internet connection when adding your license, then it should work without a internet connection. If it somehow loses the license (e.g. changing hostname, using MAC address randomization, wrong time used, etc.) then it'd need to be reconnected to re-add the license. If system requirements increase for MC32 you likely can't use it without updating your OS too. Depending on the make and model of the Mac, it may be possible to force upgrade to a newer macOS version like Sierra, High Sierra, Mojave or Catalina, depending, it has a little bit of risk though. More info on that here (I'd highly recommend reading all of them and looking at known issues and whatnot if thinking about going this route): https://dosdude1.com/software.html

Send Apple a Thank You note.

I've already sent those jerks a nastygram for refusing to work with Tascam to upgrade the driver for my UH-7000 interface, in addition to the bloat of their OS updates I'm forced to use to access later versions of my tax software. My 2014 Mac Mini won't fall off a log now if you kick it. I've got MC32 on it and am waiting until next year to purchase the baddest MacPro laptop I can afford in hopes it won't bog down after another 10 years of their crappy OS updates. At that point, I'll move MC32 or newer over to the laptop and run everything through a new DAC, but I'd really like to use MC22 on an old Macbook that actually works quickly - and on my Tascam interface.
