JRiver Media Center 17.0

One of the new Animated List Styles.  See MC17 features below for more.

JRiver has been in the news a lot recently, and there's some flattering stuff being said (blush). But we've humbly kept on working hard.  MC17 just keeps getting better. Thanks to you for making MC so much fun. And a big welcome to our many new customers.

Computer Audiophile did a very positive review of JRiver Media Center 17.0.  They concluded:
"There's no such thing as a perfect piece of software. JRiver Media Center version 17 may not be perfect but it reigns supreme as the playback application by which all others should be judged."   http://www.computeraudiophile.com/content/JRiver-Media-Center-17-Detail      We'll take that.  Thanks, CA.

The Absolute Sound magazine relied on JRiver for a big three part series on digital media.  The series ended in March.  They said it was the best all around solution for digital audio.

Jim Hillegass of JRiver spoke at several seminars at Salon Son et Image, a large hi-fi show in Montreal.  Both Soundstage and Audiostream.com wrote about JRiver's participation.  A number of vendors were using JRiver in their demos.  http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=71092.0

Sales of MC17 this year are up about 50% over last year.  We have thousands of new users from both the audio and video communities.

More DSD players are becoming available and JRiver supports them.  Mytek and Meitner are the latest devices.

HDTracks integration was introduced in a recent MC17.0 build.  New MC17 Features here:  http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=66848.0

Upgrade from any prior version of JRiver Media Center for $26.98.  New installs will find and convert your libraries and most settings.  http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Upgrade_to_MC17

Video Conversion has been improved.  Gizmo can stream movies from JRiver.  Watch a movie in bed on a tablet.

Particles -- Divide any audio or video file into multiple virtual files (pfiles).  Chapterize your DVD's and BD's.  http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Particles

Audio Path indicates hardware direct mode so you can see what MC is sending to your receiver or DAC.   It can also report the source format (especially useful for seeing if DTS-MA, etc. is being decoded fully).  http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=68182.0

Gapless playback over UPnP w/Whitebear and Squeezebox.

We've had a first look at Windows 8.  It's promising, and MC runs on it.  We expect further changes before release, so we don't yet recommend it for your daily use.  More here:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=70545.0

We've recently implemented SSE for all MC's screen drawing.  It replaces MMX and allows MC to paint screens about 20% faster.

MC is also incredibly fast when compared with either iTunes or Windows Media Player.

Switching from any other player is easy.  MC will find and import all your media, including tags and cover art.  You'll be up and running in a few minutes.  And there is no need to uninstall the other player.

Upgrade info is at http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Upgrade_to_MC17

TIP -- Simplify your view in JRiver Media Center by unchecking features you don't use.  Tools > Options > General > Features.

Enjoy your media!

Best regards,

JRiver

I think it's mostly very good/accurate, but this one seems a bit of a reach...

"Chapterize your DVD's automatically"

I haven't played with particles myself, but in watching the thread, it seems to require some 'fiddling', so I'm not sure "automatically" is quite right here.

Also, you wrote...

"Audio Path indicates hardware direct mode so you can see what MC is sending to your receiver or DAC."

but neglected to mention this new tidbit, which goes well with this thought...

4. NEW: Audio Path reports the source format (especially useful for seeing if DTS-MA, etc. is being decoded fully).

I constantly see people asking how they can know this information, and I think JRiver is one of the few/only places this is easily available currently.

Keep up the good work :)

DSD over PCM is very nice function.  The First DoP support player in Windows base.  Thank you.

Hah!  Glynor now girds himself for complaints on the public board from "two separate but equally annoying groups" (can you hear the dun-dun of the Law & Order noise?)...

Group A: Why are you spamming me?  Stop it.
Group B: I didn't get it and didn't bother to look in my Spam folder!  Why do you hate me?

:'( Not yet automatic but it is on my "wish list" for an option to create a Partical per chapter.....
