Hello,
Trying to get this app all sorted out before purchasing...
While watching a 720p video in 'fit window' mode, the screen flickers in and out. If I set the window mode to 100%, there's no problem. There's also no problem with 1080p movies. Just 720 and Fit Window.
I'm using:
Nvidia Integrated Graphics GF9400...
RedOctober(Standard)

After some research, signs point to nvidia drivers. I'll uninstall and try a fresh set tonight...
-
Still no change... I'll try a different driver package... Sure hope I can get this to work...
-
Tried many different videos, some have issues, some do not.
I'm also getting the flicker when using air video while mc17 is running...
-
Now it's flickering at strange times during a movie (like when the movie gets really dark)...
Sorry guys, I love the picture. I love the sound. And a randomly flickering screen makes this product unuseable to me.

Did you try older Nvidia drivers? Can you test on another PC?

Hi Jim,
I tried the most recent 6 driver packages from Nvidia's website. I can reliably produce the flicker/flash in each and every driver package. No difference between versions.

Would you be willing to try MC18? You can install it side-by-side with MC17.
The reason is that this recent change might be relevant:
18.0.59 (10/12/2012)
Fixed: Stretch mode and aspect ratio overrides were not working properly with EVR.
Thanks.

Of course I'm willing to try it. I'll give it a shot tonight and report back. ;D

Okay, well... In MC18, still have the problem. BUT, if I don't do hardware acceleration it's fine.
So disabling HW acceleration solves the issue.
;D
I'm running a QX9650, and without HW acceleration it's only using 5-8% cpu power
-
spoke too soon!
At the end of a video last night, MC18 started going into a panic. Rapid screen flashes. The display flickering on and off, rendering the computer nearly useless.
I also happened to notice the cpu load was doing crazy stuff. 30%, 0%, 30%, 0%, etc... A force quit is what it took to do anything at all...
-
The fluctuating CPU load could be anything. A virus checker, for example.
The flashing is something a loose cable could cause.
It would be worth trying Red October HQ. It may not work, but you might learn something.
-
Hi Jim,
The cpu load fluctuation stopped immediatley when I closed MC18.
I'm currently using the integrated graphics on the motherboard. I do have a discrete card available. I think I'll try that tonight and see if it works right then...
-
BTW... RedOctober HQ currently causes tons of dropped frames...
-

That's what you would expect if it was a virus checker.
The dropped frames with ROHQ is probably just not enough CPU horsepower.
Test on another PC if you can. Just as a test.
-
Hi Jim,
I'm running a quad core Intel 3ghz chip, with 12mb of cache.
I'm not anywhere a CPU bottleneck.
-
Well.. now using ATI video card. Working fine. I can now even do ROHQ.
:)
