Title: Move media files to NAS and keep # Plays, Ratings
Post by: Mike48 on July 23, 2014, 06:23:30 pm
I'm using MC 19.0.149 on Windows 7/64. I am moving my media (audio) files to a NAS.

After the change, MC will no longer search "E:/Mike/Music", but instead network share "//Diskstation/Music". If MC can't handle that, I'll mount it to "M:/Music".

I am content to keep the database files (Library) where they are, on the local PC.

It's easy enough to change where MC looks for media files (Media Import screen). However, I want to make this change in a way that won't lose information such as number of plays, rating, etc., that are stored in the Library.

What is the best way to do this?

Thanks!

It's very easy.

Just move the files to the new location and then:

1. Select all the files in the library.
2. Right-click->Library tools->Rename, Move, and Copy files
3. In the dropdown, select...Update database to point to new location
4. Select "Find and replace"
5. Find what: E:/Mike/Music
6. Replace with: //Diskstation/Music
7. Click OK

Done.

Optionally, you can have MC move the files for you over the network using the Rename function with similar settings.
