Could you try another couple movies?  I'm wondering if it could be file specific.

This isn't something we've heard before.

Thanks.

i have a clou now

i use my WHS as mediaserver, theres a service called Drive extender migrator or so.
this service ballances files across several HDs...
maybe the service tried to move the specific file while i'm watching... hm

i will deactivate the service and try again...

Movie freeze at a random point. mostly after ~1h
status: "waiting" in play-bar at top

yesterday: movie "sleeping beauty" at 1:19

i close mediacenter and open same file in VLC
same scene ist at 1:16(!?)

no such problems with VLC

NO processes in background, all deactivated

any ideas?

If you could copy the movie locally and try the same, it would exclude the server and network as a potential source of problems.

Could this be temperature related? Could your CPU or GPU be getting too hot and causing a shutdown or crash? Although I have never seen a program stop running due to temp - my computer has shut itself off for this issue (bad CPU fan) in the past.

My older Nvidia card blue screened on me a lot when it got to hot. My newer ATI card "only" gets a driver stop/restart when it gets to hot. So, it might be a case here as well. Not enough cooling, bad air flow etc. It could be worth checking out at least. Perhaps open up the PC, clean the ribbons on the CPU cooler, put a normal blowing fan next to it or something.

no temp issue...
i can watch hours and hours with VLC... no problem
and in MC17 after freeze i can start again on the same scene and watch the movie to the end...

strange: after restart the movie and searching for the same scene the time is different!
- movie freeze at 59:15
- restart scene at 57:45
