JRemote 3.29, ios 12.3.1, Iphone 7
JRemote starts out in portrait mode. The UI does not rotate if you rotate the phone, so it stays in portrait mode. Fine.
Play a video. Video starts in portrait mode. Rotate phone. Video goes to landscape. Fine.
Finish with video, hit done. Video ends, and UI returns.
UI now stuck in landscape mode. Cannot resume portrait mode. Must play a video, and rotate the phone back to portrait while the video is playing, then end video.
This is not good. The UI should either rotate freely like the ipad, or be locked in portrait when not playing a video. Being locked in landscape on an iphone makes no sense.
Thanks...

I have exactly the same setup and the UI rotates for me. It rotates before and after playing a video.
-
Nice.
IOS orientation lock is NOT enabled on the phone. I see no option in JRemote that affects display rotation.
Maybe the devs could speculate on why the app behaves differently on identical OS & hardware?

Same, couldn't turn it off if I wanted to.
-
Also rotates on iPad mini no problem. I'd just reinstall the app and see if that helps.
-
It was a fresh install before I posted. The release notes make multiple references to rotation problems on iphones, so the ipad mini test is not dispositive.
-
Did another fresh install, just to waste time.
UI rotates during initial display of version history. When that is closed, UI no longer rotates.
When adding the first server, UI rotates while on settings screen. After server is added, UI no longer rotates.
Another way to make it behave stupidly:
Play music to this device. While playing tap artist image in lower left corner.
Rotate phone. Art/playback screen does NOT rotate. Tap the X to close it.
UI reappears, and is now rotated.
Further rotation of phone does not rotate UI. But you can repeat the above to rotate it back.
This is a bug.

Yep sounds like it, but I cannot reproduce it. Repeated rotating eventually causes some small display issues but it always rotates.

The recent jremote fixes cured all of my rotation issues on both 6s+ and XS Max

This was exactly my experience before the recent fixes were released. Probably a really dumb thing to say, so please don't be offended/frustrated, but you are definately on jremote 3.29?
Another long shot is to see if updating to IOS 12.4 fixes things?

Definitely on 3.29 Marko. That's the only version the store downloads, and the in-app version info confirms.
I don't upgrade IOS versions when they're new. I like things to work. :)
It would seem whatever was fixed for your 6s+ and XS Max was not fixed for my 7.

Wer, what version of MC are you using?
-
21.0.19 on the HTPC seen by JRemote. Can the MC version break JRemote's rotation detection?
-
Can we verify Scobie that you also have an iPhone 7 (not Plus since I assume wer isn't on a Plus since he didn't say so)?
-
Correct, regular 7, not plus. US version, 128GB.
-
Yes same. Standard iPhone 7, model MN922X/A.
Edit: we are using different MC versions though. I am on 25.0.83 for Linux.
-
I can't think of any way the MC version would make a difference.
Are either one of you using Articles in MC?
-
Articles?
Yes, I'm afraid some of the artist names have A, An, The in them, which I told MC to ignore.
If you meant Particles, no I am not.

Same
-
So there are two things about articles:
1) Are they enabled in MC?
2) Are they enabled in JRemote?
If they are enabled in MC and the build is a recent MC25 build then the articles in MC are used for sorting otherwise the simple 3 listed in JRemote are used.
This changed the program flow a bit. Can you 2 iPhone 7 users verify these two settings?
-
MC=Ignore articles
JRemote: Tried both ways. Rotation problem exists the same either way.
-
I have Ignore Articles set on both MC and JRemote.
