Title: MC12 Beta Board RSS Feed
Post by: glynor on June 27, 2006, 09:31:33 am
In case anyone else wants it, but doesn't feel like looking up IlPadrino's explanation (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=29066.msg201434#msg201434) of how to use the SimpleMachines' RSS feeds features...

http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?action=.xml;type=rss;sa=news;board=12;limit=30 (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?action=.xml;type=rss;sa=news;board=12;limit=30)

If you want a different limit (number of threads the feed will contain), just change that number.  It can be anything from 5 - 255.

I don't get it to work :(

using the above URL perhaps require a login or something else is wrong. Open it in Firefox returns a save prompt for "index.php"

You don't want to use Firefox to directly view the RSS feed, as that's not what they're for.  I use RSS feeds in Firefox to add "Live Bookmarks".

Read this help information on Live Bookmarks here (http://mozilla.gunnars.net/firefox_bookmarks_tutorial.html#live_bookmarks) (to use the feed I linked you'll want to manually create the Live Bookmark using the instructions on that page).

Actually, I used FF to view the feed only to see if it was there at all or not. Regular feeds show as xml docs if viewed that way. As a feedviewer I use GreatNews, finding FF's Live Bookmarks a bit too messy for 60+ feeds.

...time passes...

I noticed that the ordinary YABB feed I subscribe to behaves the same way as the above problematic feed.

I have another go later on, now I'm too tired and need to work a bit more before bed.

Thanks!

Ahhh... Sorry.  I thought you just didn't know what an RSS feed was for at all.  Terrible assumption.  I'm not sure why the SimpleMachines forum system (Interact used to use YABB but they "upgraded" to the newer SMF) generates a PHP file rather than a regular XML one (which is why Firefox refuses to open it).

Either way, it works for Firefox's Live Bookmarks (which is how I use it)....
